The Africa Evidence Network (AEN) has made significant strides in enhancing evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) in Africa through the creation of Communities of Practice (CoPs), These CoPs are designed to strengthen capacities and promote collaboration among EIDM practitioners across the continent. By offering both virtual and in-person spaces for practitioners to connect, share insights, and learn from one another, the CoPs are well-positioned to drive innovation and improve practices within the field. Additionally, the focus on mentorship within these communities presents a valuable opportunity for both experienced professionals and newcomers to exchange knowledge and support each other’s professional growth. This initiative exemplifies how structured and collaborative environments can significantly advance EIDM, leading to more effective and well-informed policy decisions throughout Africa. USAID Unsolicited Solutions for Locally Led Development Sustainable and locally driven ideas come from organizations of all types and sizes worldwide. To ensure that these ideas have the opportunity to be considered, Unsolicited Solutions for Locally Led Development (US4LLD) sets aside a portion of its annual budget to provide USAID Missions (country offices) with the funding needed to support unsolicited applications that advance locally-led development. How to Submit an Idea: Concepts are accepted at any time from eligible organizations and entities. Please note: Individual awards cannot exceed $2,000,000. Final award amounts will be determined through negotiation, based on the availability of funds, and with a scope consistent with the interests of USAID. Organizations that have submitted an unsolicited concept to US4LLD should wait until a positive or negative determination is made before submitting additional concepts. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶s𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗗 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗮𝗱 Today, together with USAID (Sarah Rose, @Rachel Leeds ), along with Missy Christy, director of the Colombian organisation Conviventia Colombia and Daniel Jean - Louis Jean-Louis, we reflected on our evolving roles as diverse organizations in the field of systems thinking and localisation. We explored questions such as: What is our influence on the systems in which we work? Speakers emphasized the importance of adaptive management from their own contexts. For donors, this approach requires embracing uncertainty and allowing for greater flexibility in adjusting objectives and indicators. This adaptability enables responsiveness to the complexities of dynamic systems. Achieving system change requires a long-term vision, ongoing reflection on contextual developments, and the inclusion of actors at every level, from community to national. Prioritising local embedding is essential, as is alignment with government policies. This process demands a 'learning by doing' approach. Hear from Khady Marième DIEYE, Project Leader on our Africa team, as she explains her work on a transformative initiative with Lives and Livelihoods Fund aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of vital projects in their portfolio through an adaptive results-based management (aRBM) program. A focus within this initiative is the Primary Healthcare Strengthening Project in Burkina Faso, focused on improving maternal and child health across four key regions. Our role was to collaborate closely with stakeholders within the Government of Burkina Faso, helping to refine the project's performance framework and implement strategic routines that addressed and resolved critical bottlenecks. Here’s what we’ve achieved together: 🛠 Co-creation and Iterative Development: By adopting a needs-based approach, we developed and refined tools and processes in tandem with project stakeholders. This included the establishment of real-time monitoring systems for critical healthcare metrics, such as the availability of trained community health workers. 📚 Cultivating a Learning Environment: The introduction of quarterly progress reviews has become a cornerstone for continuous improvement, fostering an agile implementation mindset that places data and evidence at the heart of our project delivery. We're not just advancing healthcare but also setting new standards for project delivery in public health 🏥
