🎆Let’s celebrate today’s #WorldBloodDonorDay with some facts about blood: 🩸 5 liters of blood are pumped through our bodies in about 1 minute. 🩸 112 million blood donations per year are needed worldwide. 🩸 1 donation can help up to 3 people. Our bodies pump blood through a network of arteries, veins, and capillaries to function properly. In cases of illness, surgery, or accidents, blood transfusions become crucial. Today, on World Blood Donor Day, we want to give a big shout out to all the blood donors out there. Your contribution saves lives! 🔎And an insight from us: We’re proud to be part of the life-saving blood network too. Our #automated transport systems swiftly and securely deliver blood bags from the blood bank to the operating room, ensuring that life-saving blood is always available when needed most.

The impact of donation may seem immeasurable, but the truth is even the smallest contribution can have a life-changing impact. Registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor is one of the easiest ways to potentially become a hero. ❤️ We have 6 organs to give, but we can save up to 8 lives. This is because our kidneys and lungs can be split! 👁 Our two eyes can provide sight to 2 people! This is done through the donation of our corneas, which serve as the windshield of the eye. 🦴 Tissue is used to repair physical injuries and can be used in many different surgeries. Donated tissues can include bone, tendons, heart valves, skin, and more. Don't forget you can register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor at https://lnkd.in/ei5V93Aw

I have been living with a CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) leak since 2022. CSF leaks are not as rare as the literature makes out, however, the awareness and understanding of this condition is poor, causing delays in diagnosing patients. We want this to change… Patients need this to change. I am proud to be part of Target CSF Leaks…a new charity being set up by a small group of passionate individuals who are living with a CSF leak. We will be the first CSF leak charity to register in England and Wales. In order for us to achieve what we need to; we ask for your generosity. We need to raise as much money as possible to be able to: • Upgrade our WordPress Website so we can make use of tools to make it better. • Produce high-quality leaflets. • Send the above leaflets to every hospital with a neurology department, and every GP surgery in the UK. • Produce high-quality, informative videos. • Continue to run our online support group, “Leaky Café” , which started in October 2023. • Run Webinars and invite the best in the industry to talk at them, to further educate medical professionals and patients alike. • We would like to be in a position where we can offer grants to low-income patients who need specialist help. By doing all this and so much more, we can start to make a difference to those who need help, and further educate GPs, A&E medical staff, neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists about this condition, about how to recognise and diagnose a CSF leak faster using basic imaging; about using advanced imaging to locate the leak; and to ensure patients are benefitting through faster diagnosis, and being offered the finest options for effective and targeted treatment. Thank you and please feel free to share

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking EYE DONATION Eye donation is the act of donating one's eyes after death for the purpose of corneal transplantation or research. It allows visually impaired individuals to regain sight and contributes to medical advancements in eye health. Eye donation is incredibly important for several reasons: 1. **Restoration of Sight:** Donated eyes can restore vision to individuals suffering from corneal blindness due to diseases, injuries, or congenital conditions. This gift significantly enhances their quality of life. 2. **Medical Advancements:** Donated eyes facilitate research into eye diseases, treatments, and surgical techniques. This research helps improve medical knowledge and develop better treatments for various eye conditions. 3. **Humanitarian Act:** It's a humanitarian gesture that can positively impact the lives of others, providing hope and opportunities for those in need of sight restoration. 4. **Easing the Burden:** Eye donation reduces the burden on families and society by offering a solution to those facing irreversible blindness, ensuring that their wishes to contribute even after death are fulfilled. 5. **Educational Purposes:** Donated eyes also serve educational purposes, allowing medical students and professionals to learn and practice surgical techniques in a controlled environment. Encouraging eye donation raises awareness about its importance and encourages more people to pledge their eyes, thus potentially transforming lives and advancing medical science.

As we approach NF2 Awareness Day on May 22, it’s heartwarming to see the efforts to raise awareness and support research for this condition. Real people affected by NF2 are sharing their journeys, shedding light on the challenges they face, and inspiring hope for better understanding and treatments. These personal stories serve as powerful reminders of resilience, courage, and the importance of community. By sharing their experiences, these individuals contribute to a collective effort to improve the lives of NF2 patients and their families. Today we meet Amanda, who remains positive despite several surgeries. “ My first surgery was to remove a tumor that was causing me to have double vision and hearing loss. The tumor ended up being right on my trigeminal nerve and the surgeon was only able to remove 20%, so my vision problems and hearing loss are a part of my day to day routine and will only continue to get worse as time goes on - the right side of my face, back, and upper arm are numb from tumor growth on nerves - my second surgery was to remove a tumor causing me to have balance issues and falling. The tumor was successfully removed, but left slight weakness in my leg - my third surgery was to remove a spinal tumor causing back pain. The tumor was successfully removed! - I get full body MRIs every 3 months and the next course of treatment we’re discussing is Avastin “ NF2, is a lifelong genetic condition, an unwavering companion and there is no cure. Please consider donating to research, sharing your story & raising awareness. You can donate here to our research https://lnkd.in/euWUGuTS #endNF2 #NF2awareness #NF2Schwannomatosis #schwannomatosis #NF2support #nf2 #nf2family #nf2warrior #LetstalkNF2 #nf2charity #nf2cure #nf2treatment #nf2gene #nf2chromosome22 #nf2trials #nf2diagnosis #nf2lifeexpectancy #nf2prognosis #nf2research #nf2ismyteam #nf2awarenessday #nf2journey #StrongerTogetherAgainstNF2
