I’m thrilled to share my experience as the Executive Coordinator of the 𝐈-𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐌 & 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐆 Exhibition, a key component of the "𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 (𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐆) 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩." 🎉 A heartfelt thank you to Salah Issa, PhD, for entrusting me with this important role, and to the Center for Digital Agriculture for fostering a collaborative environment to address the future of robotics in agriculture. Your contributions were instrumental in achieving the Exhibit goals. 📍 The workshop took place on December 3–4, 2024, at the Funk ACES Library, Urbana, IL, bringing together 60+ participants from farm operators, academia, industry, and governmental bodies. Discussions tackled key topics like human-robot interaction, safety standards, risk management, and workforce development, emphasizing the critical balance between innovation and safety in autonomous farming. 💡 Our team from the 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐛 (𝐢𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐋𝐚𝐛), led by Dr. Isabella C. F. S. Condotta, actively participated in the Demonstration. Alongside Luana Benicio, and Mamunur Rahman. We are thrilled that The Australian Centre of Robotics at University of Sydney is joining over 20 Agtech suppliers at PRIMEX FIELD DAYS - NSW Agtech Alley in Casino. With ADAMA Northern Europe B.V. and CP association colleagues attended the CropLife Europe NL discussion on #digital_innovations at the Wageningen Plant Research. Great to see Ard Nieuwenhuizen proudly present best practices of sprayer nozzle testing in the lab combined with unique protocols to understand the impact in the field. Ard was sharing the changing landscape of robotic vehicles with the latest developments in “retrofit tractors”, to be used as robot and by humans. Success with Farmdroid of which we have already 150 in use in North Europe able to plant sugar beet seeds, take out weeds and as is expected soon to be able to spray Crop Protection (CP) where needed. Also questions posed if use of UV light will (partially) replace the need of fungicides. Kubota’s tests with UVC to be followed closely. Great to see our industry embrace gamification, embracing innovation and good use of CP with precision agriculture, use of right nozzles to limit drift being stimulated in a games. For example even one we have at home: “Farming Simulator”. It was inspiring to see what we in the Netherlands developed with European partners to support further innovation in our food supply. I had a great time at the Reedley College Agriculture Conference!🌱 The event featured incredible speakers who covered essential topics such as the new F3 Initiative certification, worker development, the role of AI in agriculture, and valuable resources provided by UCANR and the USDA. We also saw exciting live demonstrations, including drones dropping beneficial insects, Farm-ng in action, and a new sprayer! It’s clear that the Central Valley is investing heavily in infrastructure (the new innovation center at Reedley) and resources to support the next generation of farming. A recurring theme was the importance of “passing the baton” to the new generation of farmers, but with that comes new challenges that require innovation solutions. The Water, Energy and Technology (WET) Center is dedicated to helping find those solutions in the ag, food, water and energy industries. I had the chance to speak with several farmers who weren’t familiar with our incubator or mission, so I want to extend an invitation; if you’re a farmer or know one, we’d love to show you around our facilities. Fresno State offers a wealth of resources, including pumping proficiency classes, hydraulics and sprinkler labs, a drip tape lab, and even a 6-acre testing plot on the farm for testing anything relevant to the Central Valley’s needs. Robotic AI Beekeeping!!! This new tech could help bees & beekeepers better care for their hives by allowing them to remote access their bees. Not just view them but also feed them, inspect brood patterns, look for pests & diseases and more without opening the hive from the outside unless you want or need to. This could eliminate unnecessary hive checks in inclement weather Reduce fuel and time wasted running commuting to the Apiary Give you a new perspective on your hive with data, images and more I'm excited to learn more & happy to chat with anyone interested!
