Wine has been central to Italian culture and community for ages – it's a fundamental part of celebrations, ceremonies and a symbol of hospitality. I was exposed to winemaking way before I was old enough to drink it. As I grew older, what struck me about winemaking, besides the formidable bonds forged with family and friends, was that making something drinkable out of a pile of non-sterile grapes is not unlike running a business. You don't get quick feedback when you try something different. Much like blending varieties and flavours, the lessons of what to do differently, or what not to do, are not immediately evident but they help dictate whether to pivot or stay the course. Results are influenced by a confluence of external, environmental factors and DNA. Just like soil and weather impact the wine's flavour, a company's capacity to put the right people in the right place and cultivate a strong culture is crucial to success. The journey from grape to bottle or start-up to maturity, is a process of transformation and enrichment. The ability to share and bond with good friends and family is akin to creating value for those you serve and the communities you operate in. Here's to winemaking and cultivating strong communities! #leadership #culture #community #leadershipdevelopment

📢 Tomorrow’s #hospitality and #wine industry leaders are shaped by the environments we create. Let’s do better! Recently, I attended an industry 🍷 wine event solo—a decision driven by my commitment to personal growth and fostering a positive environment within our Australian wine hospitality sector. While the event wasn’t free, the investment was worthwhile: exceptional wine, meaningful fundraising contributions, and the chance to connect with like-minded professionals. 🍇 Held at a renowned wine bar and restaurant, the evening began with a touch of nervousness as I arrived alone. However, within the first 10 min's, I was happily chatting in the bar area with my two new friends. The first wine was being readied to pour, setting the stage for a night of learning and networking. 🛑 However, not everything was perfect. When the young sommeliers—polite, professional, and welcoming—opened the first wine for tasting, the event took an unexpected turn. The manager, exhibiting behaviour still too familiar in our industry, interrupted with aggressive and condescending remarks: “don’t pour it yet, they’ll only skull it”…”tell em they can’t have another one”…”no top-ups!”. His actions not only belittled both us as attendees and his dedicated staff but also highlighted a pervasive issue—the presence of "bully bosses" who hinder the growth and morale of their teams. ✨ This experience reinforced my "why": I am passionate about empowering dedicated young professionals in the wine industry to enhance their knowledge, build strong references, and thrive in environments free from toxic leadership. No one should have to endure the negativity of a bully boss to advance their career and contribute meaningfully to our vibrant industry. 💡 Here’s what I want these talented young individuals to know: ✅ You deserve respect. No one should have to put up with a bully boss to gain experience or references. ✅ There are better opportunities. Seek workplaces that value your skills, foster growth, and treat staff with kindness. ✅ Build your network. Events like these are excellent for making connections and finding mentors who can help you grow your career without toxicity. 👉To the leaders in hospitality: respect for your staff and customers isn’t just about decency—it’s smart business. Today’s customers notice, and they talk about their experiences. Tomorrow’s leaders are shaped by the environments we create. Let’s do better. ❓ Have you encountered similar situations, or do you have advice for those navigating challenging workplaces in the hospitality industry? Let’s share insights and empower the next generation. 💬 #WineIndustry #Hospitality #Leadership #Career #Mentorship #PositiveWorkplace #Bully #HotelSchool

A few weeks ago, a group of friends and acquaintances gathered for a Spanish wine tasting class. We all had 1 thing in common: we were eager to learn about tannins, terroir, and the difference between a Pinot Noir and a Pinot Grigio (spoiler: it's not just the color!). As we swirled, sniffed, and sipped our way through the evening, I realized we were doing more than just expanding our wine vocabulary. We were laughing, sharing stories, and bonding over our shared "expertise" (or lack thereof) in all things viniculture. This seemingly simple outing was building a deeper connection within our expanded friend group. We were stepping outside our usual comfort zones, letting our guards down, and discovering new sides of each other. Here's the thing: building a deeper relationship with your acquaintances and friends isn't about a particular class or event. It's about fostering trust, camaraderie, and a bit of vulnerability when doing something new. And sometimes, that happens in the most unexpected places—like a wine class. Don't underestimate the power of shared experiences, both in your personal life and at work. Whether it's wine tasting, a cooking class, or a volunteer project, acquiring new knowledge as a group builds camaraderie and trust. P. S. Laughter is the secret ingredient to make it more memorable. ✨ 25 Days of LinkedIn ✨ 🍷Day 3 — Post for November 25 Question for Monday! 🤩 Ever wonder what it’s like behind the scenes in the wine and spirits industry? Recently, I hosted a wine tasting for the Greater Dayton Apartment Association. (Thanks Barbara Steinke-Hargraves !) How long was the event? Two hours. How many hours did I actually work? Six! Drive time, emails, communicating with event planners, organzing tasting notes… What might seem like a simple process is actually a blend of creativity, preparation, and adaptability. Selecting the right wines isn’t just about personal preference—it’s about understanding your audience, the environment, and even the season. It’s an art and a science! The best part? Seeing people enjoy the experience and knowing the effort made a difference. If you’ve ever been curious about the behind-the-scenes details of this industry, feel free to ask—I’d love to share more insights! 🤝 #BehindTheScenes #WineAndSpirits #EventPlanning #ProfessionalInsights #TastingExperience #HospitalityIndustry #CareerJourney #WineLovers #IndustryTips #SharingStories

This weekend, I experienced the power of collaboration when shared visions create excellence. I had the privilege of tasting the C17 Magnum—a champagne that beautifully embodies the power of collaboration. Created by 15 visionary winemakers, it blends grapes from all 17 Grand Cru villages of Champagne—something rarely achieved, and only possible through shared expertise and purpose. It reminded me of the three key takeaways when exceptional individuals or brands collaborate: 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 When people align behind a common goal—in this case, crafting a cuvée that celebrates the very best of Champagne's terroirs—the result can exceed what any one party could achieve alone. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 The C17 Magnum benefits from the combined knowledge, passion, and skills of 15 winemakers, resulting in a champagne with extraordinary depth and character. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 Aged exclusively in magnums for over four years, the C17 is vibrant, layered, and unforgettable. From its notes of stone fruits, frangipane, and hazelnut to its lingering finish of vanilla, passion fruit, and roasted almond, it is proof that collaboration creates something truly remarkable. Whether in winemaking, business, or life, collaboration inspires us to go further and create better. Here’s to raising a glass to teamwork, shared excellence, and extraordinary results. 🥂 #Collaboration #Leadership #Teamwork #Excellence #Champagne #GrandCru #SharedSuccess
