SDRs use the holidays to your advantage: It’s easy to get pushed off during the holidays. - Trips. - Vacation time. - Busy time at work. The list goes on. So, do this… Instead of waiting for the holiday objection. Lead with it. Get ahead of it. Say something like this: “Hey I know the holidays are right around the corner, you probably have some plans with family and friends you’re looking forward to, and the last thing you want is a call from me. Is it a bad idea to meet for 20mins next week before all that craziness?” Then stay quiet. You’ll be surprised how many people agree. ➡️ What are your go to tricks during the holidays? One week in August is ALWAYS booked out for a holiday. I know a holiday in August helps replenish my tank ahead of key projects kicking off in September and to finish the year well. In fact, it's so important that the dates for 2025 are already blocked out in my calendar. For more years than I care to count, I'd squeeze holidays in when I could find the time. So, that would mean ... ❌ They weren't at the optimal time. ❌ They'd be shorter than was useful. ❌ I'd be so exhausted and stressed it was hard to enjoy them. Not ideal! And thankfully, that doesn't happen these days. The dates for holidays, like the one in August, are intentionally chosen and blocked out a year in advance. How are you with taking holidays? Are you a squeeze them in if there's time kinda person, or do you plan ahead? #ConsciousLiving #LifePlanning #LiveWellNow

We got interesting results concerning of the right amount of the vacation. 84 % of the electors prefer 2-3 weeks’ vacation to get enough regeneration. Personally, I think, that one week or less is too less to regenerate, but some studies show, that already couple of days are enough to get new power and energy. (see Jessica de Bloom (she, her, hers) How do vacations affect workers’ health and well-being?) Quite often employer and employer agree, how long the vacation in a row will/should be. As well employer laws in several countries are regulating the minimum length of vacation. In Sweden for instance the employee has the right to have 4 week’s vacation in a row between 1st of June and 31st of August. As a leader you should allow your employees to have enough time for regeneration. This also maintain them motivated, but as well to reach better results. #executivesearch #regeneration #vacation #holiday

Did you know that Nordic countries have different rules for dealing with illness during holidays? In Norway, you can request to postpone your holiday from the first day of illness with a doctor's note, while in Denmark, you only get compensated after five "waiting days." In Finland, you can apply for holiday rescheduling after six sick days. Read more about vacation planning and sickness in holiday internationally here! #InternationalPayroll https://brnw.ch/21wPle3

After yet another public holiday in Thailand yesterday, annoyingly right in the middle of the week, it got me thinking about how holidays compare around the world. Thailand has 19 public holidays in 2024 (and counting), as it feels like they keep adding more each year. With so many public holidays, some companies give shockingly low annual leave allowances, sometimes as little as 6 days, with an average of only 10-12 days. When I compare this to places like the UK, where there are just 8 public holidays, companies are much more generous with annual leave, offering 20-25 days on average. It’s a big difference. As a business owner here in Thailand, the sheer number of public holidays can be frustrating. It often feels like you rarely get a full week of uninterrupted work. Personally, I’d prefer fewer public holidays in exchange for more annual leave, giving employees the flexibility to take time off when it suits them best. I completely understand the importance of sacred religious and remembrance days, but the number of holidays in Thailand seems excessive, especially for businesses trying to maintain momentum. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance between respecting traditions and giving people control over their own time. What are your thoughts? Do you prefer more public holidays or more flexible leave?
