We’re getting the band back together 🙌🏼 Simon Adams joined the team on Monday which is the first of the many City Pub crew who are joining the Antic family. What a whirlwind week it’s been checking out the venues, meeting the teams and also getting up to speed with the new opens scheduled. Episode #1 of building a sales department Ditch the Dojo and onboard all venues to Collins 📌Top tips ✨understand your venue and your USP. Is this communicated in all your messaging, website and socials. Your elevated pitch should be clear. If you find it hard to describe your venue, it’s going to be even harder to sell it ✨Drop the “t”! Focus on what you can do and not what you can’t. It’s crazy the amount of times that I see people’s initial messaging to a customer listing all the rules and restrictions instead of singing about their USP’s. FYI - they don’t need to know that you don’t allow confetti and outside food when making an enquiry for lunch 🤦🏼♀️😉

How I sift the duds from the potential goldmines… Breakfast, lunch and evening clubs seem to be everywhere, but beyond the lure of free coffee and bacon sandwiches, how do I decide if a particular event has the potential to be a good use of my precious time? The honest answer is….it’s tricky! I’ve been to some events not expecting anything and have come away with a great contact that has gone on to be a client. Conversely, I’ve gone to others with high expectations, been disappointed and left with nothing. As a result of those experiences my vetting process now goes something like this: I am interested in attending if: 1. A potential client/contact that I’ve previously identified as a target will be there. Note: I ask for the invite list for any event I am invited to. 2. I’ll be the only person in my field attending. Note: I may feel I am actually better than the competition, but if a company is already established in the group, I personally don’t feel that these gatherings are the environment to best showcase that. 3. The event can evidence they are serious about tracking results. Note: If it’s an established group then I ask for the stats on referrals, business written etc. If it’s a new group then what are their targets? 4. I have been asked by an existing client/contact to attend. Note: If this is the case, I may feel compelled to attend, but I still do my due diligence to ensure I give yourself the best chance of it being a successful few hours for me. 5. It’s free! I’m only half joking here – if a group is serious about attracting new members and making it worthwhile for all, then I feel they should allow me to attend a couple of sessions before committing to any form of subscription. Note: I won’t base my decision on one session – it could be uncharacteristically well attended for instance so I make sure I go at least twice before parting with my hard earned cash. The purpose of these kinds of events is to make contacts interested in buying my services so if I don’t pre-vet then I am leaving it to chance. That said, I do like a Bacon Sandwich…..

Your videos don’t have to be perfect! In fact, I recorded this video on a whim while getting some follow-up questions from the audience after today’s presentation with the Arvada Chamber Of Commerce ! This video is far from perfect… I didn’t add captions, there’s background noise that I only slightly edited with a free program, I didn’t use a dedicated mic and I didn’t even turn my ring light on because at first I was just demonstrating to the audience members that asked the question, thinking I wouldn’t actually use the clip! BUT… do you know how I added value back to the community today? Can you feel how excited I was to present and connect with audience members? Do you know that I love working with the Chamber and our local beer partners at On Tap Credit Union, like one of my favorites, Odyssey Beerwerks, who also sponsors the Chamber’s presentation room? Focus on connection over perfection, and audience members - let me know how your ‘homework’ posts go! Tag me in them and let us know what the experience was like! Thanks to Ryan Hecht and my panelist friends, Beams to Basements Contractors, LLC and Altitude DocuShred ! #smallbusiness #incomegeneration #connectionmarketing #videomarketing #CUdifference

September, Rembrandt van Wine record month! 💥 Coming out of summer, with people planning for the colder and more rainy months we were of course hoping to break some records this month. But, being just an 8-month old business, how could we possibly know? Well, now we know! 27 Days into the month and we are already at: - Double the ticket sale revenue compared to August - 30+ events planned for October & November - More private event requests than we can possibly handle (and a painful amount of no’s from our side because people want to visit when we are fully booked..) Now let's keep working to make this record month the new reality for the months after as well. Except for all those no’s, we need to find another solution for that. Anyone a good idea?

Many businesses start preparing for the Christmas period early, but isn't September a bit early? We haven't even had Halloween yet! I'm curious to know from other businesses: when do you start preparing or organising for Christmas - from setting closure dates to planning the Christmas party? Marks and Spencer seems to be way ahead of the game, or maybe not? 🎄🎃 #ChristmasPreparations #BusinessOrganization

A few years ago, we took our company to Vegas for a conference and I experienced a moment that reminded me why teams will always outperform individuals. On the last day of the conference, there was a performance by Nelly at one of the hotel's beach clubs. Everyone was excited to celebrate the last day together but one of our product team members forgot to bring his name badge and the bouncers at the entrance wouldn't let him in. His face slumped but he didn't want to hold everyone back so he told us to go ahead without him and he'd find something else to do. I thought to myself how ridiculous that sounded because we'd never leave anyone behind. So I told everyone else to go in while I pulled him aside and walked him a few steps away from the entrance. He was confused but I told him to wait for a bit so he could see what I was trying to do. After a few minutes, we saw a few conference attendees leaving the event early. I flagged one of these attendees down, explained the situation, and asked if he'd be willing to part with his name badge since it was the last day and event of the conference anyways. He said no. So I flagged another attendee who seemed to be in a rush to leave. The guy said of course, took off his name badge, and handed it to me. I gave the name badge to our product team member, told him to act confident, and we walked past the bouncers into the venue with no issue. After we got in, the product team member burst out laughing. He said, "I can't believe that worked. I'd never think to do that!" The funny thing is that I think that exact same thought about this team member all the time. He's a self taught food scientist, insanely intelligent and hardworking, and regularly thinks outside the box. He works on experiments at our ramen lab I'd never dream of and I'm constantly impressed they work because I'd never think to do them. I love this memory so much. A talent or ability that comes so easy to you may be completely foreign for another team member and vice versa. And that's what makes teams work. #teams #teamwork

It’s private trivia event season! If you or your company are looking for an exciting event to put on for your organization, hire me to host a trivia game! America’s Pub Quiz (APQ) does hundreds of private events every year. Besides our weekly pub quizzes, America’s Pub Quiz is frequently hired to host private functions for Fortune 500 companies, private parties, smaller local companies and non-profit organizations. Please note that discounts may be available for verifiable non-profit organizations (501c designation). We come into your place of business or a neutral venue (like a bar or restaurant) and host a fun trivia game for your gang. APQ can tailor the quiz to your desires. APQ has a wide network of venues we work closely with; we can hold private functions at one of our existing locations or a venue of choice by the client. Keep in mind that if a venue does not have adequate sound equipment America’s Pub Quiz can provide it at no additional cost. Our game consists of 20 questions that are split into 6 rounds of 3 questions each. There is a halftime and a final question designed to keep everyone in the game. Each question is separated by one song. During that song teams deliberate on the answer. The game itself is casually paced. The structure allows for an entertaining time while still allowing for conversation, dinner, and drinks. We’ve been at this since 2008, you can trust us to put on an awesome time, with entertaining questions while throwing in some humorous (and safe for work) jokes. We can also tailor our private events to our client’s needs, so if you have some specific topics you’d like, we’re all ears! We can host events at short notice, but usually, like at least two weeks to put it all together. To request more information about having your own private APQ event, send me a DM! For more info on where you can find my weekly trivia shows, follow my Facebook page John Bock Trivia Host https://lnkd.in/gFpXegCv

Words + Pixels took on Paris 🇫🇷 - wine was drunk, cheese was eaten, The Seine was sailed, and the karaoke was…. well, butchered. We celebrated the last six months (which were epic) and recognised some huge personal wins - announcing a bunch of promotions in the process. So, meet the new bosses of W+P. Proud of you lot 👾 👏🏼 Don’t mess with Charlotte Simpson, our newest Account Director (and resident Jennifer Hudson impersonator). She’s running the show across some serious consumer and tech accounts. 👏🏼 Need something done? Claudia Jones probably already did it, and thought of all the other things you didn’t. She effortlessly steps into the role of Account Manager, obviously. 👏🏼 Moisés Gossain doesn’t just have impeccable style, his enviable black book makes him our go-to B2B publicist as he becomes our new Senior Media Executive. 👏🏼 All hail Senior Media and Influence Exec, Jasmine D., who basically brings the average ‘cool’ rating of our agency up by more than a few notches (and always has the best restaurant reccos). It’s been a bloody good H1. But, progression isn’t only measured in job titles. Across the board the entire team put in an absolute shift. Massive congrats to everyone for consistently growing and showing up to make the work, work. When it comes to growth though, we don’t shy away, hide behind fluffy objectives or create difficult conversations. We reward fairly, and when it’s due. The progression framework we created and launched last year ensures that - providing transparency on where you stand in your role, your salary bracket, how to grow and importantly, how to be accountable for your own career. So, H2, let’s be havin’ you!
