Since 2017, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has been committed to advancing a just transition in plastic waste collection programs. These efforts laid the foundation for inclusive and responsible practices well before global discussions intensified. As we approach INC-5, it is clear that solving the global plastic crisis requires systemic change — it demands a fundamental change in behavior, attitude, and shared responsibility across the entire ecosystem. We must acknowledge the critical role of informal waste workers and collectively drive action that ensures they are supported, protected, and empowered as central actors in a circular economy. Join us next Tuesday in Busan to explore how to create an inclusive and responsible ecosystem for a sustainable waste management. Together, we’ll discuss the rights of *informal waste workers*, advocate for systemic change, and share actionable insights on implementing frameworks like the Harmonized Responsible Sourcing Framework for Recycled Plastics. 📄 View the agenda: https://lnkd.in/gnJaGnbe 🖊️ Register here: https://lnkd.in/geRsAK7X Let’s commit to building a future where responsibility is shared, waste is valued, and every actor across the value chain contributes to sustainable, impactful solutions. Hear from Daniel Donghyun Ham, Chief Operating Officer of City Oil Field Inc., as he presents on "Unique regenerated green oil (RGO) system, which produces high-quality naphtha and oil by processing plastic waste” at the 3rd Circular Plastics Asia conference (24-26 September 2024, Seoul). As South Korea emerges as a leader in the circularity of plastics – implementing initiatives to reduce plastics consumption, announcing advanced plastic recycling projects and developing new technologies, hosting the conference in Seoul underscores the country's commitment to addressing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices. The conference focuses on a range of key topics including the Philippines' efforts in decarbonizing packaging, the need for regional harmonization of recycling standards, and sustainable initiatives by Sansu. Discussions also cover the increasing demand for circularity in industries, advancements in high-quality food-grade RPET in Indonesia, purification recycling technologies, the debate over plastics credits, the impact of China's PET resin capacity expansion, reusable packaging, and a unique RGO system producing high-quality naphtha and oil from plastic waste. Recently, I visited one of the collection centers for a producer responsibility organization in Indonesia, IPRO, to learn about their local approach to tackling the plastic waste crisis. Indonesia is targeting a 30% reduction in waste by 2025. Since January 2021, Indonesia Packaging Recovery Organization (IPRO) has been actively involved in work with government officials on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), a waste recovery model that holds producers responsible for the end-of-life consequences of their goods. IPRO's goal is to increase the collection and recycling of used packaging. We are pleased to be working with this organization and hope to see continued growth of the program. While the IPRO has many challenges, they are making good progress in a part of the world where efforts to address plastic waste are absolutely critical. After seeing IPRO’s program and having the opportunity to advocate for EPR in Washington, D.C., I’m hopeful that more countries can begin similar initiatives and join global efforts to implement practical solutions like EPR. We need collective action to tackle the #plasticwastecrisis.

I am often approached by various specialists and colleagues, not only from Uzbekistan but also from other countries, with various requests. I am always willing to assist, provide advice, and discuss situations. Sharing, exchanging, and gaining experience is always a joy. Learning new things is also a great pleasure. Recently, I was contacted by Alyona Severinenko, a specialist in waste management projects of the Public Foundation Center for Sustainable Development in Kazakhstan. She is an expert on the Plastic Collection and Recycling Network (PlastNet). Additionally, Mukhanov Zhanibek, a waste management project specialist with the Public Foundation Center for Sustainable Development, is also involved in PlastNet as the manager of the network. They work with Kazakhstani companies for the collection, treatment, and production of final products. They have experience organizing numerous environmental events for businesses, legal entities, and the general public. Additionally, they actively engage with the younger generation to enhance environmental awareness. As part of a project, they identified the use of plastic alternatives in various countries, including Uzbekistan. The following issues were addressed: 1. What alternatives to disposable plastic products are available on the market in the country? 2. What measures are in place to encourage the usage of alternatives to single-use plastic? 3. What obstacles exist to the widespread adoption of sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics? 4. What additional steps, in your opinion, would contribute to increasing the adoption of sustainable plastic alternatives? I was pleased to contribute to this interesting project. #Uzbekistan,#experience.#waste,#sustainabledevelopment, #plasticcollection,#plasticrecycling,#environmental
