🌍 Today is International Human Rights Day 🌍
On this day, we commemorate the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—a global pledge enshrining the inalienable rights of all people. Yet, as UN Secretary-General António Guterres aptly stated this year, "Human rights are under assault."
As we reflect on this, we also mark the conclusion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign to end all forms of gender-based violence. Under the theme "Rise up against gender-based violence," KAIROS has amplified the voices of partners and human rights defenders around the world, including peacebuilders in South Sudan, the DRC, Colombia, Guatemala, the Philippines, and Palestine, as well as Indigenous organizations and migrant justice groups here in Canada.
These partners inspire hope through action as they:
✨ Support survivors
✨ Defend women’s rights and gender justice
✨ Advocate for accountability and bold, nonviolent action
Despite the challenges, these organizations continue to work tirelessly to uphold human dignity, protect our planet, and demand justice. They remind us that human rights are not just ideals—they are essential to building a just and compassionate world.
Let us honour their efforts today and every day by recommitting to bold action for human rights and gender justice. 💛
