Who are we? We want the young living in Shelby County to grow up in a community of opportunity! For most Shelby County families, finding a high-quality early learning opportunity is not just a desire but a pressing need. Parents are in search of safe environments with loving and trusted caregivers where their children can learn and where their whole family is welcomed. However, the reality is that accessing these opportunities is a challenge for too many families. The facts are stark-Shelby County’s families urgently need more accessible and higher quality care. There are 3 main reasons for this: 1. Childcare and early learning are in limited supply, meaning options can be hard to find and even harder to afford. Nearly 60% of the county’s children are not yet in kindergarten and need care that is not available. 2. The availability of licensed, high-quality care is also limited. Only 40% of the County’s licensed facilities have Paths to Quality Levels 3 or 4-designated seats. 3. Childcare is not affordable for many Hoosier Families. The average cost of the County’s childcare tuition ($7,048.00) is similar to one year's tuition at a public university. Raising Peaceful Children is an educational program designed for individuals engaging with children aged 0-3. This introductory course introduces adults caring for infants and toddlers with the essential knowledge to nurture a joyful and well-rounded child. The core principles of Raising Peaceful Children encompass compassionate care practices, autonomous play, unrestricted movement, and tender guidance. Through this module, participants will gain insights into implementing beneficial approaches tailored for infants. The techniques shared in this introduction are backed by research to yield optimal results for infants. Raising Peaceful Children comprises a series of brief instructional videos, articles, and online content that provide caregivers with in-depth guidance on incorporating strategies that promote security, respect, and acknowledgment among young children. The objective is to cultivate a supportive atmosphere where children can flourish. By embracing the philosophies advocated in Raising Peaceful Children, caregivers can cultivate a nurturing and positive setting conducive to the growth and development of children. The focus on respectful care routines, self-directed play free movement, and gentle guidance can lead to long-term benefits for both children and caregivers. Did you know that applications for VIC Building Blocks grants close on 4th September? 💫 🍃 The grants provide funding to kindergartens to upgrade early childhood buildings and facilities (including playgrounds), and purchase equipment to provide safe and more inclusive environments for children of all needs and abilities. There are 2 categories of grants under the Building Blocks Inclusion Stream: Buildings and playgrounds grants of up to $200,000 (excluding GST) to make kindergarten activities safer, more inclusive and accessible to children of all abilities; Equipment grants of up to $10,000 (excluding GST) for: moveable inclusive education equipment, such as mobility stools and sensory equipment for kindergarten programs. If you're wondering what PINS is, here you go... 👉 Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) Meeting the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in mainstream schools is essential to improving outcomes (across attainment, attendance and wellbeing), parental confidence and delivering the financially sustainable SEND system, as envisaged in the SEND and Alternative Provision (AP) Improvement Plan. Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) will bring health and education specialists and expert parent carers into mainstream primary settings to: 👉Help shape whole school SEND provision. 👉Provide early interventions at a whole school level. 👉Upskill school staff. 👉Support strengthening of partnerships between schools and parent carers.

Evidence of the life changing impact for children living near children centres. Learning starts at home! Inclusive local services that provide the support families need ‘early’ do make a huge difference. Well done to all who supported and delivered/ deliver children Centre services. It’s so sad that this valuable provision has been decimated, at what cost to our most precious commodity… our children and our country’s future!!
