I was off the grid for two weeks, spending some vacation time with family and friends in India. While there, I took some time to scan the local newspapers for headline news on the changing face of mobility in India. Here's a summary article. This is intended to be "light" reading and certainly not a comprehensive discussion of all OEM / policy directions. The use of small batteries (25 - 35 kWh) and "battery as a service" model, both of which alleviate the initial high cost of EVs, is an interesting difference with EVs in the US & Europe. #EVUpdate Sokudo Electric launches 3 E2Ws; aims to capture 15-20% market shares Sokudo Electric India, an electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has launched two FAME-II-compliant electric scooters - Select 2.2 priced at INR 85,889, Rapid 2.2 at INR 79,889, and one Non-RTO model named Plus (powered By Lithium) at INR 59,889. The company anticipates its new electric scooters to capture 15-20% of the market. Select 2.2 and Rapid 2.2 have a range of up to 100 km, and Plus up to 105 km. The new models are equipped with a 15-amp converter for efficient charging and reducing range anxiety. They run on smart fireproof lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) batteries. Rystad Energy's analysis on the impact of passenger #EV uptake in #Japan shows that it would have a negligible impact on power demand. With EV prices falling by the day, and some models now on a par with cheaper #ICE vehicles, there is potential for a steep uptake of EVs by Japanese consumers. Interestingly, our analysis also shows fuel cell EVs (#FCEVs) are losing their appeal in Japan with annual sales now numbering in the hundreds. This was an interesting piece of analysis to be involved in and shows there is much to be gained from electrifying the passenger vehicle fleet, including reducing transportation #emissions and #oil product imports, while helping boost energy security.
