Celebrating Independence and Health Equity for All. This week, as fireworks light up the sky and families gather to celebrate Independence Day, we remember that July 4th marks more than just the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Beyond the festivities, this day provides an opportunity to reflect on broader concepts of equity and justice, particularly health equity. The Declaration of Independence proclaims the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. However, disparities in health outcomes, access to healthcare services, and the quality of care received continue to exist, especially among marginalized communities. July 4th reminds us that the fight for true freedom includes striving for health equity. To truly honor the spirit of independence, we must work towards a society where everyone has equal access to the resources necessary for a healthy life. Improving access to healthcare by ensuring that all individuals, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to quality healthcare services is fundamental. This means expanding healthcare coverage, making services affordable, and ensuring accessibility for all. Recent initiatives, such as the expansion of telehealth services and community health programs, have made strides in this direction, but there is still much work to be done. Addressing social determinants of health, such as housing, education, and employment, significantly impacts health outcomes. By creating policies and programs that improve these areas, we can work towards a healthier, more equitable society. Recent efforts to increase funding for public health infrastructure and support for education and job training programs are promising steps forward. While challenges remain, there has been progress. Initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare access, improving public health infrastructure, and addressing social determinants of health are steps in the right direction. On July 4th, we celebrate these advancements and renew our commitment to achieving health equity. As we enjoy the fireworks and festivities, let’s remember the ongoing journey towards health equity. It is a journey that honors the true spirit of Independence Day, ensuring that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are within reach for all. We call on all stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare providers, and community leaders, to continue their thoughtful and concerted efforts in this essential pursuit. Together, we can create a future where health equity is a reality for everyone. Reach us at info@healthequitypartnership.org https://lnkd.in/dY3-KXgF

Where you're born, where you live, and where you work influences the quality of your health. They're just a few factors, known as social determinants of health, that can contribute to why you get sick or how you navigate care for chronic medical conditions. This PBS documentary explores how social determinants of health affect Colorado residents, but the same circumstances can be found all over the country. Intermountain Health considers how to best address these factors in the communities we serve to improve patient outcomes – and quality of life. The journey is fascinating, and special thanks to Decode Colorado and PBS 12 for documenting these significant health impacts. #healthcare #healthcareaccessibility
If you’ve heard the term—social determinants of health—but don’t know what it really means, a new documentary is out, sponsored by Intermountain Health, that digs into the many factors that affect your health, along with the healthcare landscape in Colorado. While these compelling stories focus on individuals in Colorado, the stories are familiar across Intermountain’s landscape. Chief Strategy Officer, Dan Liljenquist, was interviewed for the PBS special, saying, “I think we can do a better job. It’s not for lack of resources; we’re spending more money than has ever been spent in the history of the world in healthcare, and yet the results aren’t good enough.” Watch the documentary here: https://lnkd.in/dsit-Bup

But look a little deeper, and you’ll see at their core, the two companies share the same values and approach to care; both have built their success on providing personalized, comprehensive care to the people they serve. Both companies share key characteristics of seeing a person for who they are, really listening to them, and going the extra mile to make sure they get what they need. According to Tami Colver, MedZed’s chief people officer, “Community Health Navigators (CHNs) are the heart of our company. We hire qualified people who are bilingual from the community and know the local issues and resources to support and guide our members. To a person, they are passionate about giving back to their communities. They excel at building relationships of trust with members, and they take the time to get to know the whole person and understand their complex needs and challenges. Once trust is established, our CHNs work one-on-one, in person to evaluate and prioritize our members’ needs, help them overcome their health-related social issues, reconnect them to primary care physicians and specialists, and coach and motivate them to become advocates for their own health.” https://lnkd.in/gjZKEtaR

Don't Hide Your Light: The World Needs Your Unique Gifts As a boutique healthcare recruiting firm specializing in community health, we've learned an important lesson: When you have a gift that can make a difference, you have a responsibility to share it. Too often, talented professionals hold back, thinking, "I'm not for everyone." And that's true—we can't be all things to all people. But your contributions are essential for the organizations and patients YOU are uniquely equipped to serve. They need your specific skills, experience, and passion to realize their mission and achieve better health outcomes. At CB3 Connections, our gift is connecting mission-driven community health organizations with visionary leaders who will take them to the next level. We know we're not the right fit for every healthcare entity. But for those dedicated to the underserved, our ability to find top talent for them is game-changing. So, we show up daily and are committed to leveraging our strengths for those who need us most. We stay focused on the healthcare segment where we can have the most significant impact. We don't apologize for having a passion for supporting the underserved and maximizing our effectiveness. Whatever your gift is, embrace it and cultivate it. Most importantly, you must have the courage to share it with those you are called to serve. They're waiting for you to step up and step out. Your light is meant to shine. #EmbraceYourGifts #ImpactOverEgo #ServantLeadership #HealthcareRecruiting #CommunityHealth

After speaking with over 100 doctors in the past two weeks, one theme keeps coming up: they want to address their patients' social needs but lack the tools and resources to do it effectively. Through these calls and meetings I affirmed that great healthcare isn't just about medical treatment - it's about understanding the whole person. Housing stability, food security, and transportation all impact health outcomes. That's why at Primary Health, we built tools that help doctors identify and address social needs. Our platform connects patients with community resources. We do this because everyone deserves a doctor who can support both their medical and social needs. Grateful to work alongside independent primary care practices making this vision a reality in their communities on the back of massive tailwinds with social care networks in New York and the plethora of community based organizations that do the hard work everyday.

It’s a company, not a project. Someone said that to me in a meeting recently. They had picked up on how I had been minimizing my work by calling what I was building (in their eyes clearly a company) a project. While my brain hasn’t wrapped itself around how I could possibly have organized myself into bootstrapping a company, I do love this dictionary definition: "Company: a number of persons united or incorporated for joint action." We certainly are that. 🔔 Follow along with me while I build a company that seeks to change the healthcare system for patients through the well-being of providers, not at the expense of. I'll be posting every Tuesday and Thursday the wins and failures of bootstrapping, creating the first-ever collective care platform, and trying to build a substantially different kind of community through activist principles under capitalist rules. Believing that unless we address structural oppression, we have already lost whatever fight we believe we are fighting. No matter how many feel-good health-tech buzzwords we use, or how noble our intentions are. But I truly believe we can do this, Togather.
