Picking up from the last steps regarding Rules of Origin of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and understanding certain technicalities about the Rules of Origin for the AfCFTA. It’s important to know how to determine how a particular product/commodity meets the Rules of Origin (RoO) FAQ: What key steps need to be fulfilled to determine if product/commodity meets the Rules of Origin? Simply asking yourself the below questions can assist: 1. What is the export destination? If it is part of the same regional economic community (REC), then those rules of origin apply (as before) or the AfCFTA RoO can apply depending on the preferential tariff conditions. 2. Define the precise Harmonization/Tariff/Commodity Code for the product. 3. Look up the exact product-specific Rules of Origin on Appendix 4 of the AfCFTA Rules of Origin. 4. Whilst looking at the General Rules of Orgin Guidelines (which can be found in Section 2 of Annex 2) of the AfCTA, it’s important to distinguish whether a product was created using local materials? Has the source of the inputs come from another AfCFTA member state?
