Waking up to this news story was a stark reminder of the critical importance of clinical safety and risk management within NHS systems. It underscores the essential work being done by the tireless Clive Flashman 💙 and Patient Safety Learning, pushing for higher standards and safer patient care. 🛡️🩺 Once again, this highlights why clinical safety must be at the forefront of our digital health roadmap, right alongside understanding user needs. Engaging directly with healthcare professionals to comprehend their workflows, processes, and clinical contexts is crucial. It’s about equipping our development teams with a clear understanding of potential risks, enabling collaborative design, documentation, and monitoring of mitigations. Following the Grenfell Inquiry and the ongoing scrutiny into the Post Office's Horizon system, the weight of responsibility is clear. Our obligations towards transparency, integrity, and diligence are paramount. We must be the agents for enhancing safety and clinical outcomes — areas in desperate need of support. 🌟 For those yet to delve into DCB0129/0160, I highly recommend it for a deeper insight into the processes. Better yet, take the time to immerse yourself in a clinic, department, or surgery to truly grasp the context in which your technology will operate. Let's ensure we get this right, for the sake of all those who depend on us. 💡✨ #NHS #ClinicalSafety #RiskManagement #PatientCare #HealthTech #DigitalHealth https://lnkd.in/eGjXGxXh

We are constantly struggling to get the message across to both digital health manufacturers and health organisations of the importance of the NHS safety standards in delivering safe digital health projects. It is core to the success of all projects, our number one objective should be to cause no harm to patients and reduce risk as far as possible. The number of organisations that pay lip service to the clinical risk management process and deliver shockingly substandard clinical safety documentation and process is unacceptable. NHSE can train as many CSOs as possible but unless you have buy in from top management to support the governance and implementation then it will fail. We require more support from NHSE to police non compliance and prevent digital health systems going live in these cases. When we train CSOs we enrol them on a CSO mentorship programme which gives them support to enable them to grow as effective risk managers being able to analyse, evaluate and challenge their organisations and manufacturers if process is lacking. We have an obligation to make sure the delivery of digital health projects are safe and effective in achieving the delivery of care to our population.
