The future of quantitative ground models for offshore renewables. Side event of EAGE Annual 2024, this workshop will bring together all parties involved in the development and use of quantitative ground models for offshore renewables projects. We want to stimulate an open debate that involves everyone associated with the multi-faceted process, including: geoscientists, who are heavily involved in the model development from an early project phase; geotechnical engineers, who incorporate the results into engineering ground models and subsequent infrastructure design; data scientists and geostatisticians, who link the various parameters and establish the 3D soil property population and assess the uncertainties. We are part of the European EnCLOD project, funded by the Interreg Central Europe programme. 📅 On the 28th and 29th of May a meeting of the EnCLOD consortium took place in Vicenza, Italy.🌍 The project involves 10 partners from 5 countries, including the University of Zilina. The aim of the project is to harness the power of the Internet's open data and sensor networks to address critical urban and social challenges in Central Europe. At the May meeting, each of the participating countries presented its pilot project area. The University of Žilina will lead the project in Žilina to improve road safety. It will include the development of a "Road Safety Prevention Tool". This activity will be implemented in cooperation with the City of Žilina, which is an associated partner of the project. 🚀 In the coming months, our team will face challenging tasks. Already in autumn, a meeting of the EnCLOD partners will take place in Žilina, combined with a study visit. 🚆 The electrification of railway transport has emerged as a crucial strategy to miti-gate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reduce the environmental footprint of mass transportation. European countries have consistently invested in modernizing rail infrastructure. However, a significant portion of the global freight and passenger railway fleets still rely on diesel fuel, necessitating cleaner and potentially carbon-neutral alternatives to lessen the environmental impact of rail transport. With the growing integration of renewable energy sources and the production of green hydrogen, hydrogen-fueled trains have emerged as a promising solution. 📈 In our recent work we have contributed to advance the understanding of hydrogen applications in the railway sector, emphasizing their strengths and weaknesses in real-world applications, proposing a study on powertrain refurbishment for construction and rail service diesel locomotives, focusing on a PEM fuel cell-based solution. 📣 If interested in the H2 applications, do not miss the presentation of our Lorenzo Bartolucci at the Transport Research Arena 2024 in Dublin (Ireland)! 🤝 Lorenzo will present the results of the research activity, in collaboration with mZero in the context of the Hy2Rail project. Last week I met in Brussels some of our #TESCluster colleagues, leveraging a synergies identification initiative 🤝🏼 launched by the CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency and which gathered 12 currently ongoing #TES related #EU projects🇪🇺. Although one of the main differences between the 12 projects resides in the plethora of applications 🔬 of the technologies, all of them have common aspects that need to be faced 🎯. Technological challenges of the solutions development 🛠️, economic obstacles 💸 for a future market inclusion or social readiness 👥, to name but a few. The #TESCluster, conformed by ECHO EUproject, BEST-Storage, HYSTORE PROJECT EU and led by ThumbsUp in this year 2024, will support the CINEA on the committed joint actions 📝, leveraging the already gained experience as a good example of a successful clustering initiative 💡. There is strength in unity and this initiative is promising. 📣 Our “Transgeographical Hydro Bodies” project selected in the Perform Europe 2024 call has started! Transgeographical Hydro Bodies is a collaboration of four European partners Forevergreen (IT), instrument inventors initiative (NL), Tenthaus (NO) e Cashmere Radio (DE), promoting an innovative way of touring by stimulating critical reflection on the environment through a transdisciplinary artistic approach. 💧 At the heart of the project is “Hydro Bodies Assembly”, a participatory lecture-performance by the Collective Corpi Idrici (IT) which will tour, during the course of this year, between the four cities of the network: Genoa, The Hague, Oslo, Berlin (hybrid performance) anticipated by a series of workshops involving local communities of artists, eco-activists, and citizens. 🎙️ Voices and sounds collected during the workshops and performances will create a new narrative of the tour that will feed into “Hydro Bodies Assembly Podcast”, expanding the performance in time and space. Through the support of the Interreg program, the vision of green tech solutions has taken a significant step forward with the funding of LivingLAB GreenStudio 1.0 Interreg IPA Croatia-Serbia

One of the pilots of the DATAWiSE project will analyze the educational establishments in RPR territory - focusing on integration of energy efficient practices. This pilot will showcase how suitable building management can enhance the learning environment and reduce operational costs at the same time.

Meeting potential new partners for the project DigiTechPort2030, keeping up with scientific research on maritime topics and networking – that was all part of the annual event of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027, research associate Elizaveta Diatlova took in September part in for the European Project Center and represented the project. During several events during the conference there were interactive games, abstract teambuilding and even a glimpse how things are looking under the sea during a walk through the Ozeaneum. Some ideas for future projects also popped up. The project DigiTechPort2030 is about the decarbonisation of small ports’ ecosystems for efficient environmental and energy management towards south Baltic fit for 55. The interreg-project is co-funded by the European Union and aims at providing access to missing knowledge on green transition and decarbonisation for such ports by developing and deploying two solutions by the end of 2026. On the one hand a Green Energy Harmonisation Toolbox and on the other hand a EU Regulation and Green Policy Compliance Roadmap of Green Transition for SMSPs.
