Please refer to my last post. Managing Nigeria diversity-generated problems: 6. ADDRESSING HISTORICAL INJUSTICES Nigeria must address the historical injustices and inequalities that have contributed to the divisions between different ethnic groups. This includes recognizing the contributions of different groups to the nation's history and promoting reconciliation and healing. Establishing platforms for dialogue and reconciliation can help bridge ethnic divides. Truth and reconciliation commissions, similar to those used in South Africa, can address historical injustices and promote healing. Civil society #organizations and traditional leaders can also play a pivotal role in these initiatives, given their influence and reach within communities. 7. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND EQUITY Economic inequality is a significant driver of ethnic tension in Nigeria. Addressing these disparities through inclusive economic policies can mitigate conflict. Investment in infrastructure, healthcare, and education in marginalized and underdeveloped regions can promote economic equity. #Job creation and poverty alleviation programs that target disadvantaged groups can also reduce the sense of exclusion and disenfranchisement that fuels ethnic grievances. This aligns with SDG 10, which aims to promote equal opportunities and fair systems to ensure all individuals benefit from economic growth and #development, without discrimination. 8. PROMOTING NATIONAL IDENTITY Fostering a strong sense of national identity that transcends ethnic divisions is crucial. National symbols, narratives, and ceremonies that celebrate Nigeria's diversity and shared heritage can promote unity. Media campaigns that highlight stories of inter-ethnic collaboration and success can also help build a more inclusive national identity. CONCLUSION Nigeria can move towards a more united and inclusive society by promoting cultural #intelligence and nation building, encouraging inter-tribal interactions, investing in enlightened citizenry, fostering inclusive governance, addressing historical injustices, ensuring economic equity, and promoting national identity. It is only through such efforts that the nation can truly harness the #strength of her diversity and achieve her full potential. REFERENCES 1. Gabriel, O. O. (2019, December 30). Last week, I was thrilled to meet my father, Prof. Abeeku Essuman-Johnson's long time friend and my uncle, Prof. Gyimah-Boadi, co-founder and Board Chair of Afrobarometer at the State of Democracy in Africa Summit organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Foundation with support from the Ford Foundation in Abuja, Nigeria. In a very insightful and thought-provoking presentation, Prof Gyimah-Boadi shared results from the latest Afrobarometer survey which indicated that majority of Africans prefer #democraticrule and reject authoritarian rule. However, the same report showed that the #youth between 18-25years were supportive of a military take over when leaders abuse power. This is alarming! And we need to step up #civiceducation for the youth across the continent to understand that military governance and coups are NOT the solution to our problems!. Prior to the Democracy summit I sat in a round-table discussion jointly convened by LEAP Africa (a youth oriented CSO) and Ford Foundation office of West Africa in Lagos, which explored young people's roles in sustaining democracy in Nigeria. The young people in that conversation were unapologetic about their disappointment with the declining socio-economic and political fibre of their country for which reason they were not going to be quiet about the many challenges confronting them and the need to be included in governance and decisions concerning their future. This is not unique to Nigeria. We're seeing youth activism for positive #socialchange on the rise in Ghana, Senegal and across the continent. If Africa will truly succeed we must create real, tangible opportunities for our youth and empower them holistically to thrive. I feel challenged! And I'm wondering what else I can do as an #entrepreneur and University lecturer for the many young people I meet everyday? What are YOU doing for the youth around you? #addingvalue #publicrelationsexpert #stakeholderengagement

I like to categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not directorate of any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement. There may be a youth mobilization directorate in political parties but the Obidient movement is far beyond a particular political party. The Obidient Movement is a diverse and inclusive collective that transcends traditional political, religious, and ethnic affiliations. It is not domiciled within any particular party or headquartered in any particular part of the country. Its membership spans across Africa and the globe, comprising individuals from various backgrounds, including rural communities, and public, private, and corporate entities, united by a shared vision for a New and better Nigeria. Guided by the principles of adaptive and transformative change, progress, discipline, and democratic values, the Obidient Movement advocates for fairness, equity, inclusivity, and justice. It is committed to a strictly accountable and responsible code of government. Our members are committed to contributing to the realization of a better future for Nigeria through the New Nigeria project, anchored on loyalty, integrity, and democratic values. The Obidient Movement seeks to foster positive change through a commitment to integrity, honesty, and accountability, rejecting deceitful behaviours. We serve as a beacon of hope for a reimagined Nigeria, where leadership is grounded in character, capacity, competence, compassion and the well-being of all citizens. Let this serve as a clarification that the Obidient Movement operates independently of any political party, and its membership is not limited to any particular affiliation. Our focus remains steadfast on driving positive change and promoting a New Nigeria for all. This is who we are and will remain for all time. #PeterObi 🇳🇬

Happy 64th Independence Day, Nigeria! 🇳🇬 Today, we mark 64 years of “freedom and self-governance”. Yet, we're still grappling with: insecurity and conflict, economic uncertainty, infrastructure deficits, corruption and poor governance, etc. We still have 83 million Nigerians living below the poverty line, 10.5 million out-of-school children, 207 million people without access to electricity. Taking a look at the progress of our counterparts who gained independence same period or even later than us, it’s heart breaking to see the advancement they have recorded across sectors. However, there’s still HOPE! I still believe that effective leadership and a collective mindset shift can be the foundation for solving Nigeria's fundamental problems: • Visionary leaders who prioritize the people's interests • Innovative solutions to drive economic growth • Investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure • Zero tolerance for corruption This all starts with the average Nigerian understanding that the change we want starts from within. If we must have better leadership, then we must be better people. We must begin to drive the change from our homes, our churches, our offices, our schools, etc. We must become the dream Nigeria to birth it collectively. Wishing you and your loved ones a reflective Independence Day 🇳🇬 #NigeriaAt64 #IndependenceDay #LeadershipMatters #MindsetShift #CollectiveAction

Today, we celebrate a milestone in our nation's history - Democracy Day! This day symbolizes our country's transition to democratic rule and the struggles of our heroes past, who fought tirelessly for the freedom and unity we enjoy today. As we mark this significant day, let us reflect on our journey so far and the progress we have made. Let us honor the sacrifices of those who have gone before us, who fought for our independence and democracy. Let us also acknowledge the challenges we still face as a nation and recommit ourselves to building a better future for all Nigerians. A future where every citizen has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. A future where our diversity is celebrated and our unity is strengthened. A future where our democracy is consolidated and our institutions are strong and effective. As we celebrate today, let us remember that democracy is a journey, not a destination. It requires our collective effort and participation to build a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. Let us continue to work together to build a Nigeria that is a beacon of hope and democracy in Africa and the world. A Nigeria that is a land of opportunities, where every citizen can thrive and reach their full potential. Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria! May our nation continue to grow in strength, unity, and prosperity." #happydemocracyday #June12 #NigeriaDemocracyday #Nigeriaflag #Reniluxuryrealestate

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, Nextier's Founding Partner, Patrick O. Okigbo III, presented the keynote speech at the stakeholders’ roundtable to upscale inclusive businesses in Nigeria. The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, in collaboration with GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS, organised the event. ENDING EXTREME POVERTY IN NIGERIA Upscaling the Inclusive Business Approach Can Nigeria overcome extreme poverty? Can the emerging Inclusive Business approach provide a solution? If so, what role should the government and other key stakeholders play? This paper discusses Nigeria's troubling socioeconomic situation, focusing on ineffective intervention models and how the inclusive business approach can address these challenges. The Real Role of Elites in Nation-Building: A Call To Do More! Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” This quote resonates deeply in the context of Nigeria, a nation of over 200 million people facing challenges of poverty, limited education, and deep-rooted societal issues. Changing a society of this size and complexity may seem overwhelming, but history has shown that the true power lies in the hands of the elites. Definition Elites are the individuals who hold a disproportionate influence over a society’s direction—through economic power, intellectual capital, or political influence. They include those who’ve attended prestigious institutions like Harvard and Oxford, and those who are respected voices in their fields. With access to global knowledge, resources, and networks, they hold a unique power to shape the future. The Real Role of Elites Elites can either uplift or hinder societal progress. When they are strategic, passionate, and united by a shared vision for positive change, they have the capacity to transform entire nations. However, if the elites are compromised—driven only by personal gain, luxury, or status—society stagnates. The cost of elite indifference is a society left in a cycle of poverty and underdevelopment. For Nigerians who have had the privilege of world-class education and opportunities, the question becomes: What are we doing with this privilege? Is it solely to achieve personal success, or are we committed to the greater purpose of building a nation that provides opportunities for all? A Call for Purposeful Leadership Nations that thrive are those where citizens recognize their collective responsibility. Those of us with the resources and influence must ask ourselves if we are living up to this responsibility or simply benefiting from it. Nigeria needs leaders who understand that our privilege is not just for personal gain but a God-given responsibility to contribute to nation-building. The power of a nation lies with its people—but the direction of that power often lies with its elites. Let’s use it wisely. #Leadership #NationBuilding #Responsibility #Nigeria
