Thanks Jarrett!
Note my comment that transit advocates need to create a better business case for increasing public transit funding. What do you think? Do we need better tools for analyzing the full benefits of high quality transit and transit oriented development?

Chicago Transit Authority faces a painful tradeoff between ridership goals and racial equity goals. The only way to do both is to have more funding. Here's how I explained this to the Chicago Transit Board this morning: https://lnkd.in/gQRUX5jD
Better tools help a number of ways
1) Making them. You have to get around ten world experts to agree, maybe with a round for feedback.
2) It provides structure. A medical students learns how to present a patient before they know all diseases. Three reports on Tokyo, New York and Newcastle listed and measured the same way can easily be compared.
3) It sets goals for new projects. e.g. our new light rail will travel at an average of 50km/hr which will make it in the top 5% of light rails for speed in the world.
On Independence Day, we celebrate the ideals of liberty and justice for all. But achieving those ideals requires constant work. Public policy shapes our society, and city and regional planning creates the physical spaces where we live, work, and interact. Let's work together to build a more perfect union, brick by brick, policy by policy. #IndependenceDay#PublicPolicy#CityPlanning#Equity#civicuplift
Democracy is a two-way street. It thrives not just on the rights we enjoy, but on the responsibilities we uphold. Active citizenship forms the bedrock of a robust democracy, embodying the principle that citizen participation extends far beyond the act of voting.
This Democracy Day read 'My City My Responsibility', a comprehensive handbook designed to empower citizens to become catalysts for change in their neighbourhoods. This handbook offers practical insights on addressing civic issues, fostering collaboration within citizen collectives, and maximising the potential of collective action.

Check out this intriguing preview from the Stone Center’s latest discussion on inequality, financial security, and the optimistic outlook we must have on the potential for progress!
"True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security", proclaimed Member of British Parliament Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP at last week’s public policy discussion with Stone Center Director Steven Durlauf.
In his new book, The Inequality of Wealth, Liam offers an optimistic vision for the West, advocating for FDR’s Economic Bill of Rights and leveraging emerging technologies to foster freedom in the 21st century.

This election, like many before it, feels like a sea change. But in truth, it is neither an end nor a beginning. It is simply a step on the long road towards tomorrow – a journey we must travel together.
The deep divisions in our society, laid bare by this election, underscore the challenges ahead. It would be easy to succumb to discouragement, to retreat in the face of uncertainty and conflict. But at SFF, we choose to forge ahead with renewed determination. We choose to double down on our commitment to social justice and racial equity, to embrace a vision of a Bay Area – and a nation – where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can thrive.
To achieve this vision, we must actively build our collective power – a power fueled by love.
Today, we call for a courageous love, a love that fuels our fight for justice and empowers us to dismantle the systems that stand against it. Let’s work together to create a society where everyone can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential.

Juneteenth + Fair Housing = reasons to look back, look forward!
Ten months after freedom came to enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865 — the occasion we remember as Juneteenth — Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the first federal law to call for racial equity in housing. Even at the dawn of emancipation, many already knew: freedom had to include fair housing.
Our offices are closed in observance. But even as we look back, we look onward to securing fair housing for all. It’s our commitment not only to freedom, but to liberation.
