⚕️ In Poland, access to healthcare for refugees from Ukraine remains a critical issue. Throughout 2023, IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) surveyed nearly 3000 respondents on their healthcare needs, and identified key obstacles when accessing services. 🔹 20% of respondents live with individuals with specific needs or serious medical conditions. 🔹 Priority needs include health care services (29%), medication (25%), and mental health support (6%). 🔹 Barriers to healthcare include language barriers (32%), long queues (29%), unavailable services (28%), lack of transport (13%), and lack of documents (9%). 📈 For a detailed breakdown of all the key metrics, visit: https://bit.ly/3UP2lAm 🔗 Explore more IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) publications on Poland here: https://lnkd.in/gGceeRhH 🙏 U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration | Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany

In the past 3 days, the Council of Medecins sans Frontiers OCA (Artsen Zonder Grenzen/Doctors without Borders) gathered in Amsterdam. On one hand we had a lot of "normal" board type items on the agenda. We also talked about two very large crisis and our approach (Darfur/Sudan, Gaza). But what touched me most is the direction we are moving in the world: -Less respect for International Humanitarian Law, leading to less possibilities to avoid armed conflicts while respecting international law, and related to polarization of the political discours, shrinking space for our emergency respons work. -Climate changes leading to more and more people on the move for economical reasons, 3,5% in 2020 versus 2,8% in 2000. -Refugees and forcibly displaced population growing, 108M/2022 grown to 117M The work of MSF gets more and more necessary as well as more complicated and dangerous. We find our healthcare facilities bombed or luted, our cars damaged or destroyed, our staf threatened, kidnapped or even killed. So please advocate for acces and a safe working space for us and other organisations who are reaching out to the people in crisis situations. NEGLECTED CRISIS, NOT FORGOTTEN” cycle of conferences, dedicated to THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO Doctors Without Borders collaborates with Conflict Research Group, Ghent University to reflect on pertinent political and social isses about the Democratic Republic of Congo. “We invite you to join and contribute to this reflection. Doctors without Borders (MSF) invites you to the 2nd edition of the "NEGLECTED CRISIS, NOT FORGOTTEN” cycle of conferences, dedicated to THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO For decades, the dire humanitarian situation in Eastern DRC has been characterized by an imbalance between people's needs and international aid response. This situation further exacerbated over the past two years with the so-called "M23 crisis": the massive explosion of displaced people and needs has been met with a glaring lack of support and attention, despite late UN efforts such as the system-wide UN operational scale-up in Eastern Congo. Since years MSF regularly highlights many of the humanitarian community's shortcomings in effectively responding to emergencies, including in Eastern DRC. But in thirty years, what has really changed? What is needed to finally obtain a more effective, adequate, and principled response to the urgent needs on all sides to fill critical gaps? How to make sure that Ituri and South Kivu don’t risk being forgotten? The year-long series of conferences entitled "Neglected crisis, not forgotten” aims to better understand the political, social and media dynamics at play when a complex humanitarian crisis persists, and (sufficient) international aid fails to arrive. CONFIRMED SPEAKERS: Koen Vlassenroot -Conflict Research Group Aymar Nyeynzi- Université de Mons onesphore sematumba -International Crisis Group Mari-Rose Bashwira- ISDR Bukavu Tristan Terryn- Foreign Affairs of Belgium Emmanuel Lampaert- Doctors Without Borders Jimmy Matumona Tana- Doctors Without Borders Kristel Eerdekens- Doctors Without Borders. The critical theme of the day at Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada Annual General Assembly - the reduction (elimination) of humanitarian space in conflict zones like #Gaza #Syria #Sudan #Myanmar. The discussion highlighted the vital role that #MSF and Canadians (must) play in advocating for and ensuring respect for #InternationalHumanitarianLaw. Together, we must continue to open up humanitarian space to provide essential aid and protection to those in need.

Ukrainian state and non-governmental organisations and communities continue to provide crucial services for vulnerable populations in Ukraine, despite Russia’s invasion. Alongside ongoing public health challenges, huge new needs have emerged due to the war that has killed and displaced millions, disrupted supply routes, and destroyed social and medical infrastructure. OAT provision in Kharkiv, shelters for displaced people in Lviv and Krivyi Rih, TB screening in Nikopol, and mobile medical services in de-occupied frontline Kherson oblast are some of the experiences documented in a series of case studies by APH. The studies, based on site visits and in-depth interviews, examine how organisations and services have adapted to working in both high and lower intensity conflict sites. A unique project in Warsaw, Poland helping Ukrainian refugees access medical and social services abroad is also documented. The experiences of Ukrainian medics, social workers, volunteers and project clients offer valuable lessons for planning and implementation of care provision in emergency environments, and provide a testament to their dedication, courage and innovation. #EuropeanHealthForumGastein focused on the unimaginable challenges brought by the war in Ukraine on the country's health system and on the Ukrainian refugees access to health services. Global health leaders gathered to discuss how Ukraine has managed to keep essential health services running in these troubled times. Among the initiatives that attracted attention was the Emergency Services Program for Ukrainian Refugees, a project led by the #BaylorBlackSeaFoundation in Constanța, Romania. This initiative captured the attention of the international media and was praised by none other than the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Liashko, during a press conference held at the event. The representative of the Baylor Black Sea Foundation, Ștefania Mihale, emphasized the challenges that the team encountered in the integration of refugees in the Romanian health system. Her presentation highlighted several key aspects: – Adaptation strategies: how the team quickly adapted to meet the medical needs of the refugees. – Overcoming obstacles: the obstacles refugees faced in accessing health services and how they were overcome. – Sustainable solutions: plans to ensure long-term care so that refugees continue to receive the support they need. – Lessons for the future: valuable insights into how health systems can be better prepared for future crises. https://lnkd.in/dBnxDacE #universalaccess #healthservices #refugees #Ukraine #emergencyservices #emergencyresponse #BaylorBlackSeaFoundation #TexasChildrensHospital #TexasChildrensGlobalHealth
