Looking forward to presenting at #SEMI_ASMC our collaborative work with Vincent Fischer, agnes roussy, and Galliam Claude Yugma! Join us in Albany, May 13-16, to #network and discuss #solutions that improve the collective #manufacturing expertise of the #semiconductor industry. We will focus on a scheduling problem encountered in shop floors of R&D semiconductor manufacturing facilities, characterized by a large product mix in very small quantities with unique/non-standard/varying processing routes, little process control of engineering experiments, dynamic prioritization of research activities, and pre-process checks. In contrast to typical scheduling problems found in semiconductor manufacturing systems, we will provide and discuss the implications of factors of complexity (unknown parameters, evolving settings, R&D fab characteristics, etc.) on operations' scheduling specific to R&D environments. This work is partly conducted in the framework of the ACCURATE Project.

GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. has secured a $400 million U.S. grant to bolster their manufacturing capabilities in Texas and Missouri. This move is a significant step toward strengthening domestic production of critical electronic components, diversifying where chips are manufactured.   At Direct Components, Inc., we see this as a major win for the industry. The U.S. Department of Commerce and Edwards Vacuum have signed a preliminary agreement for an $18 million funding under the CHIPS Act to bring specialized dry vacuum pump manufacturing to the US. This investment in Edwards Vacuum will introduce domestic production of semiconductor-grade dry vacuum pumps, essential for both advanced and legacy semiconductor fabrication processes.
