The truth about career breaks: They’re often not holidays. I rarely see someone go to Bali for months and chill. They are: - Taking time off to look after a loved one. - Recovering from a toxic boss/company. - Grieving a divorce/break-up. - Learning a new skill. - Looking for a job. Anyone who takes time off the certainty of a pay check to add some balance and equanimity to their life are courageous and should be respected. Who cares if you take 6 months off in a 20 year career. Build a life, not a resume.
Agree fully. I would add that taking a career break to go to Bali just to chill and enjoy life is absolutely fine too.
Respect to those that do take a step away 👍
Truth. I took a time-off from 9-5 because I was exhausted. Then I realised I’ve been wanting to learn how to build websites and apps.
You nailed it Tom. This post connects and addresses some deeper issues. Total respect for folks who choose to step away ♥️
So true me and my brother taking care of my mom while I am looking forward to create more financial security but it is not that easy but hard is fun
Great insight!
Thank you for this post! 💌
I'm wondering how Taboo it still is to talk about burnout. I feel a lot of people would benefit from more people opening up and talking about it, although I can imagine many are reluctant to, because of fears it could impact future employability. Really curious to hear others insights on this. I feel like we need a burnout committee at this stage, like a 'Good Samaritans' for workers in the Tech industry.

3moI have done it for 4 months to take care of myself - covid burnout 2021.. have taken a 1 month trip too. Exhausted limited savings on the trip itself. (saying this because there are people who judge about priveleges without knowing the full context). It is about choices and risks you are willing to take and nothing is wrong here. Whatever decision you take from heart stick with it. It is all about planning ahead and the self-confidence you have on yourself.
