On International Public Service Day, we commemorate the indelible contributions of public servants worldwide! We’re reminded of the unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes to shape our communities for better. Their dedication deserves our appreciation today and every day. From healthcare professionals to educators, from civil servants to emergency responders, their altruism is steadfast . Let's pause to acknowledge their diligence and selflessness in serving the public good. Yet, public services grapple with challenges like limited resources, bureaucratic hurdles, and the need for constant adaptation in a dynamic world. But these challenges also spur innovation and progress. It is incumbent upon us to advocate for sturdier and more efficacious public service institutions that are receptive to the needs of all individuals, irrespective of their circumstances. By fostering innovation and promoting collaboration across sectors, we can elevate service delivery and engender positive reverberations on a global scale. Let’s stand united in our resolve to uphold and empower public servants. Together, we can forge a brighter future where public services are robust, inclusive, and resilient. If you can bear it, here's a video of me answering some key questions on community power based on our experience at New Local of working with councils and NHS. Questions like: What is community power? How can public services work in a more community powered way? What are the benefits of community power? What do national politicians think of community power? And many more! (And if you really can't bear to watch, all the answers are transcribed as well.) #communitypower #localgov #publicservices https://lnkd.in/eZkRnyH4

Learn how organizations can engage members of the communities they serve to build trust, advance health equity, and improve care outcomes in this new report from INSPIRE.
It's been a privilege for the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care to be part of the INSPIRE project, working alongside organizations and individuals who are truly committed to authentic community engagement. The new report from the INSPIRE project has information about how healthcare organizations can partner effectively and equitably with people with lived experience (PWLE), providing recommendations for healthcare leaders and staff, PWLE, funders, policymakers, and community-based organizations. Our work continues, so be on the lookout for opportunities to learn more and be part of the INSPIRE community! https://lnkd.in/eDbgazSN Camden Coalition, The Center to Advance Consumer Partnership, Community Catalyst, PFCCpartners

When a council and its health partners needed to shape a more inclusive Local Area SEND Strategy, they turned to us for a comprehensive consultation. Our mission? To exceed statutory requirements and ensure every voice was heard. Key actions: ✅ Ran a multi-channel consultation, engaging nearly 1,000 participants ✅ Hosted 7 online roadshows, including tailored sessions for children and young people ✅ Designed accessible materials and targeted outreach to underrepresented groups ✅ Collaborated with families, schools, and care providers to gather diverse insights. Here’s what we discovered: 📌 Over 80% of participants supported the strategy’s collaborative approach 📌 Key themes highlighted the need for local SEND provisions, early interventions, and adequate funding 📌 Feedback directly influenced the council’s plans, ensuring better support and outcomes for SEND children and young people. Whilst I am not necessarily against PPP in healthcare (although my understanding from the UK is that the costs were shown to be higher in the long term), it needs to be driven by the public health services need in a coordinated manner not by where a developer thinks they can make a profit. There is a definite need for increased healthcare in Wanaka, however, when looking at the needs of QLDC/Central Otago as a whole Wanaka is not the place for a full service hospital! There are good arguments for one in either Queenstown or Cromwell but Wanaka is too far from all the other major centres in the region. We cannot let the private sector derail sensible discussions about where healthcare should be developed in our region.
Great to hear the PM endorsing the potential for public private partnerships to deliver much needed public infrastructure for the Wanaka and Upper Clutha region. When asked by journalists about our $300 million Wanaka regional integrated hospital, the PM reportedly said it had his full support, adding: “We’re open to getting infrastructure built faster, quicker, better …” At Roa we’re committed to working with government to integrate much needed local health services into the Wanaka hospital and health precinct. Kudos to our project team Jo Fyfe Andrew Shaw Heidi Ashmore-Price Marie Hosking Jonathan Coote WARREN AND MAHONEY Lawrie Saegers Rawlinsons Limited who continue to work diligently towards that objective. I also want to acknowledge efforts of community leaders in advocating for better public health outcomes for Central Otago Simon Telfer Monique Mayze Glyn Lewers Tim Cadogan Together we can create a better future for this community.

What happens behind closed doors?! Black Country Integrated Care Partnership meetings were always held in public. I attended all of them, actively participating, listening and asking questions to better understand what and how ICP is working towards. After the last one, I emailed them saying that I felt that Eastern European Community is not being represented in their strategies and asked how I can get the seat at the table. They politely declined, saying the table is full. This month they decided to NOT give the public opportunity to participate for the first time this year! ❓What happens behind closed doors? ❓What is being discussed, that the public is not meant to hear? ❓How did they make that decision? More questions than answers! The next one is planned for January, unless they will not allow the public to participate again. #integratedcare #partnership #NHS #localauthority #publicinterest #blackcountry #representation #outcomes #community #meeting #
