The Growing Synergy Between Mining and Construction The team over Money of Mine always stays on top of current events, and they make it fun and engaging too. One of their recent podcasts really caught our attention: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gmxWai6j 👈 What stood out to us at Torqn was the discussion around cross-industry connections happening in Mining and Construction. For example, the advances in mining technology showcased by companies like VRIFY aren't just limited to Mining—they’re beginning to make significant impacts in Construction as well. The adoption of these technologies is on the rise, with applications ranging from drilling instrumentation to AI-driven solutions that promise to revolutionise both industries. ✋ Why does this matter? ✋ The convergence of technologies and practices between Mining and Construction is creating new opportunities for innovation. Companies that can navigate both sectors are positioning themselves at the forefront of these changes. When Torqn decided to expand beyond mining, construction was the obvious choice. The deep synergy between these two industries has often been overlooked, but it's more relevant now than ever before. What are your thoughts on the growing overlap between the Mining and Construction industries? Have you seen cross-industry collaboration make a difference in your work? We’d love to hear your experiences—right now, we’re focused on assessing and implementing all the aspects of this collaboration. #miningindustry #constructioninnovation #crossindustrycollaboration #goldmarket #miningtechnology #diggersrecap #aiinindustry

You won't be surprised to find me agreeing wholeheartedly with Jamie Strauss that communication is key to getting a social license. Check out his great interview with Proactive. But there is more to be said... I hear a lot of talk about improving communication at mining conferences, including Resourcing Tomorrow. The talking points can be summarised as... We need... 1. Better transparency 2. Better use of technology 3. Communicate in ways that resonate with the target audience, especially the next generation, and lean into environmental concerns. 4. To 'get back control' of the narrative. We need to 'educate people' about how important mining is for their lives. # 1-3 are correct but face an enormous hurdle in the Advocacy Paradox. That is to say, mining entities have a bad rep. No matter how transparent and age-appropriate their content is, anything with their brand won't be trusted. And # 4 is simply wrong and also subject to the Advocacy Paradox. Instead, we should engage hostile narratives using strategic empathy. Bottom line: None of the standard recommendations regarding communication work at a neurological level. Until they do, we'll get more Serbias and Panamas. Andrew Thake

Breakfast is usually my time with the Weekend FT, but how can you pass up a chance to sit between these two mining powerhouses? And the opportunity to talk ‘people’ and how to help them come with you on big journeys. These two gurus talked all about getting people to stay the course; how tennis is as much a mind game as it is a performative sport; and how sailing can produce high performing teams with seconds on the line… yeah, I’m not a fan of sailing but the analogy was brilliant! Meet Paul Moynagh, CEO of OpsKit, a purpose driven solution to nudge people in the right direction, and Jon W., the advisor you didn’t know you needed until he arrives and brings common sense solutions to complex problems - two guys who have spent a lifetime helping teams be better together. Reminded me of my favourite phrase – nothing moves until people move. Both are working with clients to do just that! And both are walking battery packs to energize any conversation, team and job. Seriously, one chat with these two and you feel like you can solve all the problems in the world. Well, maybe not all, but a lot! Good on ya guys for continuing to lead the way! What a pleasure to spend a morning chatting with you two. And thanks to the gang at #bonjourbrioche Toronto for looking after us so well! #highperformance #teams #change #results #outcomes #mining #miningguys #resources #breakfastwithchampions

Recently, during a catch-up with a colleague, I found myself sharing some of the frustrations I've encountered in the mining industry. Specifically, I discussed the potential for vast improvements in efficiency and benefits, and the challenge of encouraging others to envision and embrace change. My colleague recommended watching a Disney short titled "Piper," and its message resonated with me. I wanted to share this reflection with you all because "Piper" beautifully illustrates how we often overlook simpler, more efficient ways of doing things simply because we're accustomed to "how it's always been done." This short film serves as a metaphor for innovation and resilience in the face of tradition. It reminds us that breaking away from the pack to explore new methods can lead to efficiency and success, even if the path seems daunting at first. It's a call to action for us to be open to change and willing to see beyond the conventional. At times, it may be hard to maintain the vision to explore, innovate, and lead, but if we can persevere, a future where efficiency and progress are at the forefront can be unlocked. Because, in the end, efficiency wins out. We just need to be bold enough to take the first step away from the familiar. #Piper #Innovation #Strategy #Change #Learning #Shorts
