🌲 Happy National Forest Week! This year's theme, Two-Eyed Seeing, emphasizes the importance of integrating Traditional Knowledge with Western Science for sustainable forest management. By considering both perspectives, we can ensure the sustainable management of our forests for future generations. GIS is a powerful tool that helps make this collaboration possible. One way is through land-use planning, which considers Indigenous and biodiversity values in addition to economic opportunities. By leveraging GIS for informed decision-making, we can successfully manage our forests if we approach planning with a focus on tradition and technology. #NationalForestWeek #TwoEyedSeeing #GIS #Sustinability #Forestry #LandUsePlanning #IndigenousKnowledge #ForestManagement

Thanks for sharing this Tory. I always enjoy your posts. Over this weekend a group of volunteers from BC Marine Trails will be hard at work clearing English ivy from Gerald Island, homesteaded in the 1840s, abandoned since the 60s and becoming overrun with ivy. After 5 years of organizing a clearing party in the spring and the fall we are seeing the sensitive coastal bluff landscape thrive and the trees are breathing easier again.
