As I sit at DFW for my next flight, I'm reflecting on my journey this past year and a half. From Nov 2022 thru June 2023 I applied for well over 500 jobs, relevant to my experience and desire. I interviewed with only two companies, one of those companies for the same role at three different locations. I was perplexed and dumbfounded by the whole turn of events. Then finally I got an interview with my current company, #BELFOR, and was hired on the spot. My great desire was to find a job that would allow me to travel, give me an opportunity to lead and inspire others, and allow me to use my creative intellect to make an impact. And I got EXACTLY what I was hoping for. These past few years, leading up to and following the passing of my father, were the toughest I had ever experienced. But through it all, faith, family and friends got me through it and I am extremely grateful for all of you in the role you played, both great and small. God does answer prayers and if you weather the storms inbetween, there are so many sunrises and sunsets to behold. Never give up. You may feel like a failure, you may feel like you are failing others, but you're not. Today marks my last day at Indeed, a place that has been more than just a workplace for the past three years. Due to recent redundancies, I find myself at the end of this chapter, but I am filled with gratitude to have worked with some of the most talented professionals in the industry. "I'd like to be a GM in the future" I always ask candidates in my interviews what direction they want their career to be heading in. Some aim for the GM roles and the C suite, while others aspire to managing a small team. Some have managed teams and found it wasn't what they expected and are going back to being a "gun for hire," expert in their field, and getting paid handsomely for it. I'm less interested in their career aspirations and trajectory, and more interested if they understand what is the next thing they need to do to keep moving in the direction of their career goal. Far too many people I meet have a pipe dream of getting into senior roles, but they have never properly reflected on what it is going to take to get there. The people I shortlist and place are the ones that know the next skill they have to acquire, or the next piece of experience they need: 🎯 Who they need to be exposed to 🎯 What customers 🎯 What markets 🎯 Do they need more operational experience because they have spent their whole life in sales Knowing what is next is more important than a lofty goal because you are focused on the actions towards attaining that goal. Wishing for a promotion compared to activity working towards it will lead to two radically different outcomes. Wishing is a road to nowhere. You'll never attain that goal of GM if you don't even know how to get there. #Career #BestAdvice #SLCo

Here is A True story: At my last company, I told this to one of our new hires, and he got so offended that I didn’t want to hear about problems, only solutions, that he stopped showing up for work and we had to let him go. He had many excuses without many results. Unfortunately, not everyone is cut out for the lifestyle, but if you are you’ll reap the rewards.
