Hot take: You won’t get help if you don’t ask for it—both in life and in communities. Let’s rethink why we join communities. If we’re not planning to actively participate, we’re not just wasting our money—we’re also undervaluing the time and efforts of community managers. Commit to being an active participant or reconsider your involvement in communities you are part of. #community #CommunityBuilding

Here are a few ways you can make a positive impact in your community. ✨Volunteer Your Time: Local shelters, food banks, and community centers always need extra hands. Your time is a valuable gift. ✨Shop Local: Boost your local economy by purchasing gifts from local businesses. Curious what kind of word CDBG does? Check out this update from Dallas, TX on their community impact! Their Five-Year Consolidated Plan is a comprehensive document that outlines the City’s Housing market conditions, identifies the need for affordable housing and community development, and provides strategies to address these needs over a 5-year period. This plan coordinates the City’s housing and economic development plans with other public, private and nonprofit service providers to create a coordinated vision for community development and housing actions. The goals and outcomes of this plan were to provide decent and affordable housing, create and maintain a suitable living environment, and expand economic activity. The City of Dallas has reported that 138,915 residents have benefited from public facility improvements, 2,342 affordable housing units have been developed, and 117 homes have been rehabilitated. Giving Back to the Community This Holiday Season This festive season, in collaboration with Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd. and Mayrik, Andre Kutyan and Robert Greenberg had the honour of providing holiday meals for nearly 100 youth across two of Eva’s operating sites: Eva’s Place and Eva’s Phoenix. This marks the third consecutive year we’ve partnered with Eva’s Initiatives, an organisation committed to helping youth experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence. Their work—spanning life skills programming, housing supports, and community building—is a testament to what’s possible when compassion meets action. As professionals dedicated to placing people in homes, we feel a deep responsibility to support those without stable housing. Partnerships like this remind us of the broader impact we can have beyond real estate. To learn more about Eva’s work, visit: https://www.evas.ca/

Real change can happen only when the when a community comes together to work towards a common goal. At Shelter Associates, Community Mobilization is one of the pillars of our success. In Episode 2 of our series on how we gain the support of the community and build #ambassadors of #change through our Community Mobilization initiatives, Jayda Khan, Community Worker at Shelter Associates talks about the concept of Corner Meetings. Typically, Corner Meetings, are casual encounters with members of the slum community and can take place at tea stalls or kirana stores etc. They play a key role in reinforcing the message, discussions and actions to be taken. In addition, these meetings cement our relationship with the community. #change #changemakers #mobilization #focusgroup #cornermeetings #communitymobilization

The need is urgent. The call to action is clear, and the time is now. Your support of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco makes all the difference. Want to get involved?
