Confined 15, the annual exhibition from The Torch is open to the public! Toyota Finance Australia and Toyota Australia have been supporting The Torch, and we are proud to see how they have thrived. The Torch is a non-profit organisation that works with First Nations people currently in, or recently released from prison. They provide art and cultural support, aiming to reduce the rate of reoffending, with 100% of the artwork sales going directly to the artists. Some people say it’s just for tax reasons, but there’s more to it than that. Those behind Rolex seem to understand a universal principle: the more you give, the more you receive. Logically, it might not make sense for a company to give away all its profits and keep thriving, but Rolex has built a cycle of generosity. They donate millions, and as they do, their income and influence continue to grow. This giving cycle has lasted for decades, and it shows no signs of stopping. Here’s something that makes me chuckle…. “If they were a non-profit they wouldn’t charge for anything…” Non-profit is a tax status in the United States. And in Australia. And in Austria. And in Belgium. And in Canada. And in China. And in France. And in Germany. And in Greece. And in Israel. And in Italy. And in Japan. And in Mexico. And in Netherlands. And in Russia. And in Poland. And in Sweden. And in UK. And in dozens of other countries around the world. If an organization claims they are a true non-profit …. By doing everything with volunteers and no fees, good for them. But that is not sustainable to scale at any level. For small initiatives this is a common community driven approach. That doesn’t make non-profits that carry business costs NOT true non-profits. It means they don’t earn profits toward commercial gain. That all revenue goes to mission based services and SG&A and to reserves for operations and or investments. Be sure to understand how non-profits work.
