"#RenewableNaturalGas (#RNG) is an immediate solution that has the power to significantly reduce GHG emissions in agriculture. On-farm RNG systems capture methane emissions resulting from dairy farming and other agricultural production and convert it to renewable energy. This technology is the only viable pathway for livestock waste that tackles greenhouse gases and other air pollutants, all while supporting investments in advancing American farmers’ long history of #EnvironmentalStewardship." Currently, agriculture is a major source of CO2 emissions and, like other industries, it will have to find ways to reduce its carbon footprint as the UK works towards achieving net zero by 2050. The good news is that by implementing changes in land management practices, farmers can play a crucial role in capturing carbon. This not only benefits the environment but also has the potential to generate income for farms through carbon credits - good news for businesses looking to diversify. However, before fully committing to carbon sequestration, farmers should be aware of both the benefits and challenges involved. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
What farmers need to know about the emerging carbon credit market

As an agri-food company, Scope 3 represents your biggest challenge in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 🌎 This scope, which encompasses all indirect emissions from your value chain, often makes up nearly 90% of your total carbon footprint. It is very important because it is linked to upstream agriculture, the farmers who supply you with the raw material. 🌱🚜 👉 But simplifying data processing for Scope 3 remains essential to effectively measure, manage and reduce the agri-food sector's overall carbon footprint. Find out more about Scope 3 data processing and how to measure it effectively with an MRV solution: https://lnkd.in/ef4UcnXU

🎤 "Don’t be scared to baseline." 🎤"One thing is clear: if Australian farmers want to go on the journey with their supply chain partners, we need to know our carbon balance." AIA set out to create a national-scale, pre-competitive carbon accounting solution - one that can provide an accessible, reliable and consistent reference point to support producers and the supply chain with a better understanding of emissions across commodities. Following a successful beta period, the launch of the AIA Environmental Accounting Platform (AIA EAP) is just around the corner. The AIA EAP provides universal access to carbon calculators that reflect Australian conditions and are aligned to relevant standards and protocols. It is grounded in science and supported by a Technical Advisory Panel chaired by Richard Eckard - read about the expert panel here https://lnkd.in/gab-A4ea 👩🌾 Producers will be able to access the platform via channels they already use and trust - such as their RDCs and farm management software providers. 🏢 Supply chain organisations, software and solution providers can integrate directly to the engine and build it into their own offerings. The beauty of the AIA EAP is that it has been built to evolve, and will be able to accommodate mitigations, new calculators and emerging accounting frameworks, such as natural capital, into the future. Stay tuned!
Is anyone else suffering a bit of carbon fatigue? Where seemingly every conversation turns to emissions – and what farmers need to do about it? It’s a crowded conversation, but there’s no one better to cut through the noise than Professor Richard Eckard. The father of carbon accounting in Australia, Richard has lived and breathed this stuff for almost 20 years – so he can speak with authority on how Australia’s agrifood producers are doing on carbon, how we stack up globally, and what we can do better. 🎤 “What matters most is who’s asking?” said Richard. 🌏 “Of the world’s 100 largest economies, 69 are companies – not countries. The emissions targets of these companies, who appeal to shareholders and the future consumer, are actually what’s driving this.” And he says lessons from international markets give us a good indication on how the supply chain will start buying. Here, Richard joins some of Australia’s leading early adopters and sustainable livestock feed innovators, to share their truths on Australia’s low carbon journey – and how producers can smoothen the ride 👉 https://bit.ly/3UdZZLr

There are many drivers for measuring on-farm GHG emissions but also some issues that need to be solved. Scope 3 farm-level emissions can represent up to 70% of food and agriculture companies’ total supply chain emissions. Since one can’t manage what one can’t measure, companies need to work together across the value chain to streamline measurement if they want to move the needle and reduce these emissions. Essential for success will be to create standardized tools and methodologies for better accuracy and comparability that are also beneficial for farmers. #GHGemissions #Scope3 #CarbonFootprint #GHGAccounting #RaboResearch
