🚀 The good news keeps rolling! Keltic Pharma, a spin-out from the University of Glasgow, has been awarded a SMART Grant by Innovate UK! 🚀 Founded by Andrew Tobin, Andrew Jamieson, and Graeme Milligan, Keltic Pharma Therapeutics are thrilled to receive this recognition and support for our work on the PEPSMOL© Discovery Platform. This innovative approach targets previously hard-to-drug G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), with an initial focus on the FFA4 receptor. With this funding, we'll be advancing our development of synthetic biologics—a new class of molecules that blend the best properties of small molecules and biologics like antibodies. Our initial focus is on tackling severe asthma, a condition unresponsive to current treatments, by developing inhaled agents to normalise lung function and reduce inflammation. The SMART Grant enables us to expand our team in Glasgow, validate the platform, and drive forward our mission to bring new, effective treatments to patients and push the boundaries of biotech innovation in the UK. We are excited to reveal N4 Pharma has entered into a research collaboration agreement with a global leader in R&D, SRI, to combine Nuvec® with SRI’s proprietary FOX Three Molecular Guidance System™ (MGS) to increase intracellular delivery to specific target cells. N4 Pharma and SRI will collaborate to perform research to conjugate FOX Three to Nuvec®. With the combined technology, N4 Pharma and SRI will work to develop and pursue new business opportunities. The SRI biosciences group integrates basic biomedical research with drug and diagnostics discovery, and preclinical and clinical development. It has advanced more than 200 drugs to clinical trials, and 25 have reached the market. The division is focused on novel platforms and programs in a variety of therapeutic areas targeting high unmet medical needs. There is a new player in the pharma venture landscape: Regeneron. Regeneron has long stood at the forefront of innovation in biotechnology, developing targeted immunotherapies and revolutionizing treatments for rare diseases. With the establishment of their venture arm, it is set to join its larger peers in the pharma space – GSK, Novartis, and BMS among them – in developing an in-house venture arm with $500 million in committed capital. Large scale venture deals in the small molecule drug space are not a thing of the past. The pipeline has slowly heated up, despite the relative cooldown in the size and number of recent IPOs.
