What comes to mind when you think of The Hague? For many it is synonymous with international justice. It's where war criminals are sent to answer for their crimes. But what you might not know is that it is also the centre of a growing ecosystem of charities, NGOs and humanitarian groups who are striving for a better world. Last month I went to The Hague to speak to a number of international organisations about the work they do in the city. But this first article is about the city itself, and how it became renowned for peace, as well as justice. What does Jewish peoplehood look like during war times? Coordinators from the Israeli youth organizations and COYO's staff participated in our partners'- The World Zionist Organization , unique conference, "The Heshel Conference on Jewish Peoplehood and Israel Diaspora Relations in wartime". For several years, the youth organizations in Israel have been deepening and working to increase Jewish peoplehood, and in this complex period, there are many questions about its design and visibility. "Jewish peoplehood is the ability to maintain Jewish unity and Israeli unity, and yes, it is the basis of our existence," said Dr. Yizhar Hess, vice chairman of the World Zionist Organization, an ally who delivered a particularly fascinating lecture on this subject. Fighting for a Future World Where Human Rights Are Respected    While around 97% of the articles published in the Lithuanian media are anti-migration, only 2% represent migrants’ stories. Such use of dehumanising language has been used as a weapon against the migrants, causing suffering for many who experienced violent pushbacks at our borders. It is essential that we shed light on the individual stories of these migrants which are often hidden from the public view; the reality is unsettling but it is for this reason that it has to be shared. Director of HRMI, Martynas Jockus, shared the work of our NGO and our mission on Civil Liberties Union for Europe platform. These children, numbering around 60,000, face unimaginable hardships—from surviving the streets due to the loss of parents or abuse to being viewed negatively by the community. Trenton Dodds, Matthew Anderson, Hayden Hedrington, and Jacob Lipke—our selfless Benedictine Volunteers, have spent the last 8 months engaging with these children at Alfajiri and are committed to raising awareness and funds to support Alfajiri’s critical work. 🎨 Through art-based interventions, Alfajiri helps these children escape the streets and embrace the promise of education.
