At Transport, we’re committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. On International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), held annually on December 3, we reflect on the importance of inclusivity for the 5.5 million Australians with disabilities. Our Accessible Transport Advisory Committee (ATAC), comprising over 20 peak bodies, plays a vital role in shaping accessible transport. Chair Rebecca Gale explains: “Early consultation with people with lived experience leads to the best outcomes. Our new Mariyung trains, have the highest level of accessibility across the Sydney Trains fleet, offering a much quieter journey, easier to read information screens, designated spaces for wheelchairs and accessible toilets." Through the Safe Accessible Transport program, we’re also upgrading stations and ferry wharves, such as the Wahroonga railway station and Greenwich Point Wharf, to ensure easier access for everyone. Technology also plays a key role, with the Sydney Trains app enabling passengers to pre-arrange ramp assistance, providing confidence and support. We’re proud to lead with innovative solutions and collaboration to make public transport seamless and inclusive for all. #InternationalDayofPeopleWithDisability #IDPwD #TransportforNSW #Diversity #Inclusion

Disability access ramps empower individuals with disabilities to travel independently and participate fully in society. Whether on public transport, such as trains, taxis or personal vehicles, these ramps ensure safe and efficient boarding and disembarking for wheelchair users, reducing the need for assistance. This not only enhances freedom and autonomy but also lowers barriers to employment, education, and social activities. By facilitating independent driving or passenger travel and minimizing the risk of injury, disability vehicle access ramps are essential for fostering accessibility and inclusion across all modes of transportation. 🎶 We took the *accessible* train going aaanywhere 🎶 Good news! 🗞️The MBTA won a grant to improve accessibility on the Green Line. The Green Line is the oldest subway line in the country—nearly all stations were built before the ADA, so a lot of work is necessary to make them accessible to people with disabilities. ⭕ Should you have to do a wheelie to access public transport? ⭕ Imagine if you walkers out there had to pop a handstand to get on the ferry? 😆 Accessibility is a problem, no denying this, however developing skills can help. Having a wheelie with a pull-through technique up your sleeve can be the difference between enjoying a ferry ride and a day out exploring, or not. ❗BUT, despite being a proactive guy who tries not to let poor access stop me, coming across these situations is tiring! And what if you're a powerchair user who can't just pop a wheelie? Credit to Black Cat Cruises and Paul Milligan for reaching out after seeing this video on Instagram. I commend you for the new accessible pontoon on the Diamond Harbour side and for being willing to improve the access to your service. ChristchurchNZ and Christchurch City Council there is still a LONG way to go especially in the built environment. Just look at all those new townhouses with steps to the front door as an example. Thanks to all you other access crusaders out there. Some that spring to mind include: Sophie Morgan , Wheel the World , Be. Lab , The Hāpai Access Card , CCS Disability Action , New Zealand Spinal Trust , Jezza Williams Tanelle Bolt , Permobil APAC , Anna Sarol Who else is making the world accessible for all? On International Day of Persons with Disabilities🌍, we reflect on a simple truth: movement should be simple, spontaneous, and dignified. Wheelshare enables people with permanent, temporary, or partial mobility needs to move freely and independently through public spaces. Our smart self-service stations remove the need to ask for help, wait for assistance, or depend on others. Because true accessibility means having the same freedom of movement as everyone else.💙 #InternationalDayofPersonswithDisabilities #IDPD2024 #Independence #InclusiveDesign #InclusionMatters #Accessibility #SmartMobility
