🌟 Inspiring the next generation of innovators 🌟 In early December 2024, nearly 300 students from 10 local schools stepped onto the project site of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace (M12RT)—the region’s largest infrastructure initiative—to launch its new School STEM Education Program. The event showcased the exciting opportunities that STEM careers in civil construction have to offer. Students explored diverse career pathways, engaged with industry professionals, and saw firsthand how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) come to life in real-world projects. This two-year program aims to spark curiosity and inspire young minds to pursue dynamic careers in STEM, with hands-on activities, innovative programs, and the support of passionate professionals. We’re proud to play a role in fostering the talent of tomorrow and giving students a front-row seat to the possibilities in civil construction. 🚗🛣️ With summer in full gear, stay safe on the road this festive season with our essential tips for your road trip. If you’re heading out on the road these holidays, remember to: - Stay under the speed limit to make sure you arrive safely at your destination - Make sure everyone's buckled up properly - Plan regular breaks and swap drivers if you can - Prepare for the unexpected - keep a safe distance of at least 3 seconds between your vehicle and the vehicle in front - If you plan on drinking, have a Plan B - Switch off and put your mobile phone in the glovebox - Check your lights, tyres and oil to make sure your car or motorcycle is road trip ready. Between December 2023 to January 2024, road deaths and serious injuries increased, with 63 fatalities and 817 serious injuries. This was 14 more deaths and 127 more serious injuries compared to the same period 12 months before. Remember to prepare and take care over the break because safety never takes a holiday. A big congratulations 👏 to our Regional Rail project team for achieving a 'Leading' rating in both Design and As-Built categories from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council for Mindyarra Maintenance Centre, Dubbo. This is the highest rating in the scheme, which evaluates economic, social and environmental performance across the design phase. The centre is using solar energy, water recycling, and innovative technologies, as well as a variety of other sustainability initiatives, to reduce environmental impacts and maximise social and economic benefits for the local community. 🌳🌞💧 #Sustainability #MindyarraMaintenanceCentre #RegionalRail #TransportForNSW

This year marks 10 years of collaboration between Transport for NSW and the Sydney Swans in promoting safer behaviour on NSW roads. The renewed partnership, now including the AFL Women’s team, expands the initiative’s reach to inspire both current and future generations of road users. To kick off this new chapter, Swans players recently hosted a skills session for high school students aged 15-17, blending AFL drills with discussions on road safety and informed decision-making. With 321 lives already lost on NSW roads this year (as of 11 December), and increased travel expected over the festive season, this partnership is a timely reminder to make road safety a priority for everyone. #SydneySwans #RoadSafety #NSWRoads #RoadAwareness #TransportForNSW

Glow-in-the-dark line markings will be trialled on Bulli Pass, south of Sydney, to improve night-time visibility and road safety, especially for large trucks and motorcycles. The markings absorb sunlight and glow at night, making road shapes clearer in adverse weather or areas without street lighting. ☀️ 🛣️ The trial will run for six months, following a spike in near-miss incidents at night. Data and feedback will be reviewed to decide if the trial should be expanded. Prior to the trial, the technology was tested for safety and slip resistance at the Transport’s Future Mobility Testing and Research Centre. At Transport, we’re committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. On International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), held annually on December 3, we reflect on the importance of inclusivity for the 5.5 million Australians with disabilities. Our Accessible Transport Advisory Committee (ATAC), comprising over 20 peak bodies, plays a vital role in shaping accessible transport. Chair Rebecca Gale explains: “Early consultation with people with lived experience leads to the best outcomes. Our new Mariyung trains, have the highest level of accessibility across the Sydney Trains fleet, offering a much quieter journey, easier to read information screens, designated spaces for wheelchairs and accessible toilets." Through the Safe Accessible Transport program, we’re also upgrading stations and ferry wharves, such as the Wahroonga railway station and Greenwich Point Wharf, to ensure easier access for everyone. Technology also plays a key role, with the Sydney Trains app enabling passengers to pre-arrange ramp assistance, providing confidence and support. We’re proud to lead with innovative solutions and collaboration to make public transport seamless and inclusive for all. #InternationalDayofPeopleWithDisability #IDPwD #TransportforNSW #Diversity #Inclusion

Primary producers and freight operators in Griffith rely on using Boorga and Dickie Roads to get fresh produce from their farms to our dinner tables. 🥦 🧑🌾🚛 🚚 🛣️ 🍽️ These roads have benefitted from a total $9.678 million in funding through the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program, the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery Program, Griffith City Council and contributions from local landholders. The funding allowed for upgrades that included rehabilitation and sealing, as well as drainage improvements that will minimise overflow during rain events. Hear from locals about the new roads in the video below. #TransportforNSW #FixingLocalRoadsProgram #GriffithCityCouncil #Funding #RegionalRoads

🐢 Shell-ebrating a turtle-y amazing success! 🐢 In October 2023, Western Sydney University and Transport for NSW launched an innovative conservation project along The Northern Road, Western Sydney. AI dashcam tech revealed the area as a turtle hotspot, just in time for nesting season. Low-level barriers and culvert escape routes were installed, creating safe, guided pathways for turtles to cross without harm. The results? From October 2023 to March 2024, there were zero turtle injuries or deaths at the trial sites at The Northern Road and Elizabeth Drive intersection and Castlereagh Road near Penrith Lakes - a total shell-ebration of success! 🐢 Motion-sensor cameras captured the project’s incredible impact. What’s next? As a first for NSW, permanent turtle barriers will be installed along the M12 Motorway in time for it’s opening in 2026, prioritising creek lines and culvert crossings. Plus, the trial data will inform future turtle-friendly projects like the Elizabeth Drive upgrade. As Western Sydney continues to transform, Transport remains focused on its commitment to sustainable initiatives that support local wildlife, including our freshwater turtle populations. #Conservation #Sustainability #WildlifeProtection #TransportforNSW #WesternSydney
