Dual enrolment programs Dual enrollment programs, also known as concurrent enrollment or dual credit programs, allow high school students to enroll in college-level courses and earn credit simultaneously for both high school and college. An excellent story about #BigPictureSchools in the news! However the article still describes BP as an 'alternative' program or pathway to so-called 'traditional' schooling. i couldn’t disagree more. Here's why 👇🏼 ➡️ With a recorded 48% #disengagement of secondary school students in Australia, completion of Year 12 still low in many parts of Australia, 50% drop out of apprenticeships and traineeships, we need an #education system which feeds young people's curiosity, coaches them in exploring future opportunities and supports them to be more connected, networked and prepared to live the life they aspire to. ➡️ The world of #modernwork is one of innovation, adaptation and lifelong learning. Given the massive skills gaps and workforce issues businesses and organisations are facing, our ability to learn and flex fast, deal with changes in how we might work incl more self employment and gig work is key. School must to be a safe And creative place to stretch, test, fail, grow and develop this in-built muscle we each possess for #lifelonglearning. ➡️ We have the research and evidence about how learning outcomes are improved when tailored to an individual's learning styles. You shouldn't have to find a different, unique or special school to achieve this. I think this is one of my key objections to the 'alternative school' persona which carries such an 'individual deficit' mantel. ➡️ Imagine if every student left school feeling well, whole, empowered, skilled and capable rather than relieved, scared, lost or bruised? The Promise of Big Picture is that it works for today's students whose ways of engaging in learning and the world couldn't have changed more dramatically, just in the past 5 years alone! Today, CTE affords our young adults opportunities to increase their earning potential and pursue higher education endeavors. These pathways are not mutually exclusive as some believe. Further, students who engage with high-quality CTE may experience improved attendance, engagement, motivation and achievement; benefit from collective efficacy; are more likely to graduate on time; and are often more effective in using and generalizing skills. Coupled with advanced coursework, high-quality CTE increases the likelihood students will enroll in a two-year college, obtain and sustain employment, and earn higher wages compared to their non-CTE peers
