MÁS ÁRBOLES ('More Trees') | In the next 7 years, the Más Árboles project aims to plant 1,900 hectares annually, spread across 34 different communities, totalling 13,300 hectares in the highlands in Peru. In this impactful initiative we work together with Pachamama Raymi and True Green. This alliance is dedicated to breaking through the vicious circle of environmental degradation and rural poverty, ensuring that rural communities and families improve their living conditions and sustainably manage their natural resources. Through carbon finance, we ensure long-term sustainable plantation management and development, fostering a brighter future for both the people and landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. #treeplanting #carbonfinance #localcommunities #socialimpact #Perú https://lnkd.in/ewhAPXU5

Thank you to Ngao Mubanga and Valerie Hickey for taking the time to pen and share this insightful article about the transformative effects of the Transforming Landscapes for Resilience and Development Project (TRALARD) in Zambia's Northern Region. The TRALARD project's focus on sustainable forest management and community empowerment is indeed commendable, and the success stories from the Kaloswe Community Forest Management Group (CFMG) highlight the tangible benefits it brings to local communities. As we delve into the discussion on climate change resilience and the importance of sustainable natural resource management, it's imperative to explore further avenues that could contribute to these efforts. One such avenue is the incorporation of bamboo cultivation and plantations, which have shown promise in aiding the fight against climate change while offering socioeconomic benefits to communities. Bamboo, often referred to as the "wonder plant," is a versatile resource with a myriad of environmental and economic advantages. Its rapid growth rate and ability to sequester significant amounts of carbon dioxide make it a valuable asset in mitigating climate change. Additionally, bamboo's extensive root system helps prevent soil erosion, stabilize slopes, and enhance water retention, thereby contributing to land restoration and resilience against natural disasters such as floods and landslides. Moreover, bamboo offers numerous livelihood opportunities for rural communities, including the production of timber, handicrafts, textiles, and bioenergy. Its diverse applications make it a viable alternative to traditional forest products, reducing the pressure on natural forests and promoting sustainable land use practices. In the context of Zambia, where deforestation rates are alarmingly high, the incorporation of bamboo cultivation presents a promising solution. The country's favourable climate and fertile soils provide conducive conditions for bamboo growth, offering an untapped potential for economic development and environmental conservation. However, realizing the full potential of bamboo cultivation requires concerted efforts and support, both from governmental initiatives and development projects like TRALARD. Fortunately, TRALARD's comprehensive approach to landscape management and community empowerment positions it well to assist with the resources and expertise needed to promote bamboo cultivation in Zambia. TRALARD can play a pivotal role in facilitating the establishment of bamboo plantations in collaboration with The Business Place Network, providing technical assistance, training, and access to financing for interested communities. By integrating bamboo into their forest management plans, communities can diversify their income streams, enhance ecosystem services, and contribute to climate change resilience goals. https://lnkd.in/d_HSkB56

Charcoal is the primary energy source for most Tanzanians, especially in urban areas, due to its affordability and widespread availability. However, traditional charcoal production methods are unsustainable, leading to widespread forest degradation, loss of biodiversity, and adverse impacts on communities dependent on forests for fuel, other products, and essential ecosystem services. One of our Tanzanian partners, MTANDAO WA JAMII WA USIMAMIZI WA MISITU TANZANIA (MJUMITA), is working hard to change this, with great impact. The African Visionary Fund highlights how in this article: https://lnkd.in/ddfYqBky

Tomorrow is World Rainforest Day: a timely reminder to reflect on the multiple values derived from conserving and enhancing rainforests, which can be financed through carbon projects. Members Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM) recently launched a five-year Sustainability Development Plan with the Pacific Forest Alliance to support the delivery of long-term community benefits through the April Salumei rainforest conservation project in PNG. You can find out more in the post below. #naturebasedsolutions #carboncredits #climatefinance #carbonmarkets
Coinciding with World Rainforest Day this week, the April Salumei rainforest conservation carbon project has launched an innovative new five-year Sustainable Development Plan to provide long-term community benefits. The April Salumei project in Papua New Guinea conserves and sustainably manages over 600,000 hectares of globally significant virgin rainforest that was originally planned to be logged. The new Plan includes delivering improvement projects focusing on the following: 🔹 Community capacity building 🔹 Improving access to education 🔹 Improving health outcomes Learn more in our media release: https://hubs.ly/Q02B_jxT0 Contact our team to find out more about the April Salumei project carbon credits available to support your company’s sustainability goals: https://hubs.ly/Q02B_jxY0 #AprilSalumei #REDD+ #REDD #carbonprojects #carboncredits #sustainabledevelopmentplan #WorldRainforestDay #rainforestcarbonproject #rainforestcarboncredit

📣Learn more about the integration of individual SME investments and the landscape approach by the example of the Landscape Resilience Fund (LRF): 🌳WWF strives to include project activities into a broader scale – landscapes – to ensure more participatory engagement of stakeholders and a broader view on drivers and opportunities. The LRF provides one example on how landscape work could be combined with targeted investments into climate-resilient SMEs. 🌿What’s the LRF’s integrated approach?🍃 “Landscape work creates an enabling environment through improved landscape governance and management, with support for more sustainable and resilient supply chains. SME investments, in turn, improve livelihoods and encourage a transition to climate-smart agriculture practices within the landscape.” 📄Find out more about the LRF’s landscape approach and read more about two selected LRF landscapes in Vietnam🇻🇳 and Ghana🇬🇭 in this factsheet: https://lnkd.in/dHgj8GqD & on the LRF website: https://lnkd.in/djNj5GHr WWF Deutschland South Pole #bankablenaturesolutions #vietnam #ghana #landscapes #resilience #sustainability #climate #climateresilient #climatesmart #greeneconomy #naturebasedsolutions #impactinvesting #SME #LRF

As part of its sustainable development strategy, Żywiec Zdrój actively monitors the state of water resources in its catchment areas. Data on rainwater infiltration is used to design long-term programmes aimed at improving water flow and enhancing local biodiversity. Initiatives include 🌼 Flower Meadows, which protects 64 hectares of high mountain meadows, and 🌱 ‘Po Stronie Natury’ (On the Side of Nature), a project that has replenished over 1,000 hectares of forest by planting 8 million trees. 🌲🌳 Żywiec Zdrój also engages in community-focused initiatives. For example, through 🏞️ ‘Łapmy Wodę’ (Catch the Water), the company partners with a local NGO to teach residents of the Silesian Beskids mountain range how to effectively manage rainwater for practical, economic purposes. Similarly, 💧 the Water Fund project sets aside PLN 2 million (€470,000) to develop local water infrastructure in the Jeleśnia commune. 💶 Click here for more biodiversity projects in our sector: https://lnkd.in/eFxqTvkw #NatureGuardians
