Treloar's student Freya enjoyed her sessions working on reception and in the charity office at Cardiac Rehab. Thanks to a specially adapted keyboard, Freya was able to help with administration tasks and particularly enjoyed entering data. She said afterwards: “I loved working at the Cardiac Rehab Centre. My favourite thing was working on the computer.” As a result of these sessions, Freya has developed her work skills further and also her communication skills. #Education #WorkExperience #DisabiltyAwareness #Accessibility #Inclusion

The culmination of 18 months' work and several projects alongside Ofcom: an outcomes bank to support organisations, educators, policymakers and researchers plan and measure media literacy initiatives. Outcomes banks help organisations - design projects with more focused, meaningful goals - save time by giving them a starting point and ideas for measurement - improve their evaluation through the use of more reliable measures - better compare their results to different projects with different approaches But there's not enough of them out there. And the ones that are tend to be focused around more 'common' impact and intervention types (physical health, mental wellbeing etc.), rather than specialisms such as media literacy. All of the Making Sense of Media Team's work in this sector suggests this new resource will help give people and organisations working in this sector a head start with their impact measurement - especially when used alongside Ofcom's evaluation toolkit that we published, tested and updated last year. If you’re a charity or organisation that runs media literacy activities, explore the outcomes bank and how it can help you here: https://lnkd.in/eaA5r5hF --- I'm Tim. I help charities have a bigger impact through better measurement. #Charities #SocialPurpose #ImpactMeasurement #Evaluation Special thanks to: Jim Barratt for being an insightful, dependable evaluation creative and accomplice, Fay Lant, Kate Morris, Alison Preston, Claire Levens for your guidance, and Jess McBeath for your support. It's been a pleasure to work with you all!
✨ Helping children, older adults and Disabled people build their online skills and knowledge. Following a 14-month pilot, involving 13 organisations working with nearly 3,000 people across the UK, we have published guidance for anyone helping individuals and groups most at risk of online harm. We found that organisations delivering these sessions should: - Prioritise outreach and engagement plans. - Build in digital literacy support if needed. - Pilot activities with target groups to understand the range of needs. We are proud to have worked with the 13 organisations who have helped inform our guidance and made a difference to vulnerable groups in their communities. Earlier this year we launched Community Connect, our new scheme which grants everyone at Reed in Partnership three days each year to volunteer within their local community. Maria Chappell, Employment Adviser on our Work Routes service, used her Community Connect days to volunteer for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) Charity. The organisation supports local ambulance services through training volunteers and funding community education initiatives. Maria has been volunteering with YAS as a Community First Responder since 2015, so was delighted to get the chance to give more of her time to the service. Community First Responders are vital across Yorkshire as they enable more people to respond to a medical emergency. Working in local communities, volunteers are trained to provide lifesaving treatment in those critical few minutes between an incident and the ambulance arriving. Maria shared her experience stating, “My Community Connect days were spent assisting the crew on shift and visiting a local secondary school to demonstrate the importance of the Restart a Heart initiative which encourages people to learn CPR. “I am very passionate about the role I do and want to make a real difference, so this was the perfect opportunity. This is a very important time of year for the service, and being closer to the patients allows myself to offer vital support at the scene. “𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲.” #community #volunteering #socialimpact

Excited to share my ongoing experience participating in the Student Consultancy Project at Queen Mary University of London! Our team is currently working with the Erb’s Palsy Group, a charity dedicated to raising awareness and providing support for families affected by Erb’s palsy. This condition, caused by complications during birth, affects 1 in 800 babies and can have a significant impact on families. So far, we have focused on several key areas to help the Erb’s Palsy Group enhance their outreach and support efforts: Event Frequency and Accessibility: We are exploring ways to increase the frequency of events and training days, suggesting a shift from large, infrequent events to smaller, more regionally spread gatherings. This approach aims to reduce costs and foster stronger community connections. Geographical Challenges: With members spread across the UK, we are looking into strategies to improve event turnout and community engagement, ensuring that support is accessible to all, regardless of location. Social Media and Communication: Enhancing their social media presence and creating more opportunities for children to connect outside of the annual fun day are key recommendations. We are also emphasizing the importance of raising public awareness about Erb’s palsy to aid in prevention and early intervention. Volunteer Engagement: We have identified the need for better volunteer information and streamlined processes to encourage more people to get involved without overwhelming them with extensive training requirements. Financial Strategies: Given the charity's limited budget, we are proposing various fundraising ideas and budget management strategies to maximize their impact. This project has been a rewarding experience so far, allowing us to contribute to a meaningful cause and develop practical solutions to real-world challenges. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated organization and look forward to seeing the positive changes our recommendations will bring. #ConsultancyProject #QueenMaryUniversity #ErbsPalsyGroup #CharityWork #CommunitySupport #StudentExperience
