Entrepreneurship in South Africa is crucial to the economy as it drives innovation, creates jobs, and promotes economic growth. With high unemployment rates, small businesses provide essential employment opportunities, helping to reduce poverty and inequality. Entrepreneurs also contribute to addressing local challenges by introducing new products and services that cater to diverse needs. Additionally, startups attract investment, foster competition, and boost exports. Currently considering an innovation hub in The Hague, Netherlands 🇳🇱, for entrepreneurs in the African diaspora - and anyone building innovative solutions to Africa’s biggest challenges. Any ideas who i should speak to about this? The hub would embrace a hybrid model (physical space and digital platforms) to serve entrepreneurs anywhere in the world, including within Africa. Note: This does not affect ongoing discussions for local hubs in various African cities. Terrible idea or worth pursuing further? We can build this together, the same way we built Norrsken East Africa from scratch. Your thoughts are needed 💡💡💡 Gert van Veldhuisen David van Dijk #diaspora #entrepreneurship #africa #agenda2063 Africa Cities Fund

Thanks for sharing Andrés! If you haven't already, check out our article on Entrepreneurship and Special Economic Zones recently published in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Transnational Corporations Journal. Susanne Frick and I have explored how SEZs could promote local entrepreneurship. Initiatives like targeted skills development, networking, and providing business-friendly regulations can reinforce spillovers effects. In addition, tailoring policies & infrastructure to the specific needs of local entrepreneurs, rather than offering generic incentives, is crucial for effectiveness.
