This week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Northern Lights plant in Øygarden, a first-of-its-kind plant enabling a value chain for carbon capture, transport, and storage. It is impressive to see the site at the scale of the plant, and that words can be put into action. Yesterday, it was announced that Equinor had been successfully awarded three new licenses for carbon storage: two in Norway and one in Denmark. 🇧🇻🇳🇴🇩🇰 These licenses are critical enablers for the continuation of the effort toward decarbonisation, aligning with the ambition to have CCS capacity between 30–50 million tons of CO2 per year by 2035. Now, the hard work starts to prove that large amounts of CO2 can be stored safely and ensure that the projects can fly commercially and technically. The future is bright, and I look forward to contributing to shaping the future of CCS and hydrogen.

New updates for Whyalla and Port Bonython H2 projects from the SA Government and Office of Hydrogen Power South Australia Power this week! The SA Government, and AHC member, GFG Alliance have signed a new agreement to explore renewable hydrogen offtake opportunities for the Whyalla Steelworks as part of the Hydrogen Jobs Plan project. Commercial negotiations to secure the supply are now progressing. AHC Member GE Vernova has also been named as the preferred supplier to supply 100% run hydrogen turbines for power generation. Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) with Consortium partners and AHC members, ATCO and BOC South Pacific will continue into the second quarter of 2024 focussing on detailed project and engineering design, procurement of critical equipment, finalising contracting arrangements, and cost estimations. And updates for the Port Bonython hydrogen hub project, with the Government signing Development Agreements with five partners, Amp Energy, Santos Ltd and H2U - the Hydrogen Utility®, as well as AHC members Origin Energy and Fortescue Energy. These Development Agreements provide a pathway for project partners to secure a long-term lease on land at Port Bonython. They will continue to progress feasibility studies and early design works for their proposed hydrogen projects, Read more on these announcements here: https://lnkd.in/gN-7XqK2 #h2au #hydrogen #SouthAustralia #hydrogenjobsplan

🌐 With the world pulling in the same direction on offshore wind, having good rope is critical. OTS - Offshore & Trawl Supply, a Norwegian manufacturer of high-tech fibre ropes of superior strength, knows precisely this. “OTS is a solution provider, delivering tailored solutions for demanding operations at sea,” says its Managing Director, Stein Frode Bulling-Ness. To reduce its environmental impact, the company recently changed its entire portfolio of ropes to bio-based fibre, shrinking its carbon footprint related to fibre production by 90%. 🌱 Learn more about the fibre ropes here 👉 https://ow.ly/PET550Ume7k 📷: Courtesy of Hydroquest #offshoreliftingoperations #fibrerope #offshorewindfarm

Technip Energies, leader of a consortium with GE Vernova, and construction partner, Balfour Beatty plc, received a Letter of Intent from bp, on behalf of NZT Power Limited for the execution phase of the Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) in the United Kingdom. This landmark project is poised to become one of the world’s first commercial scale gas-fired power stations with carbon capture, expected to capture up to 2 million tonnes of CO2 per year. The project is set to provide flexible, dispatchable low-carbon power equivalent to the average electricity requirements of around 1.3 million UK homes, further supporting the nation's transition to a cleaner energy future. Gastech 2024, taking place from 17-20 September in Houston, will showcase the most innovative solutions and technologies across natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, climate technologies, energy manufacturing, and low-carbon solutions. South Australia has the tools and resources to help de-risk the environment for commercial green iron projects to emerge 💚 Joanna Kay and Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia strongly backs Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, Premier Peter Malinauskas, and the SA Government's bold ambitions and look forward to supporting this smart, bold movement with our member organisations. It is refreshing to see state and commonwealth commitments towards initiatives to develop SA's green iron industry. One such project is the Northern Water Supply Project, which aims to provide a new, climate independent water source for the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsular regions of South Australia. If and when successful, the project will be a new reliable, secure and climate-independent water supply to unlock regional development and enable the growth of green energy/green hydrogen industries.
