Are We Falling into the Trap of Cargo Cult Thinking? Ever heard of the cargo cults from Melanesia? These were communities that, during the colonial era, observed the rituals performed by military personnel stationed on their islands—started building runways, setting up control towers, and signalling to the skies. Believing these actions would summon ships and planes filled with precious goods, they started mimicking these activities themselves, convinced they could recreate the magic formula to bring in the 'cargo.' But here's the kicker: this isn’t just a problematic chapter from history. "Cargo cult thinking" has crept into the way we work, creative brainstorms and strategy sessions. It happens when we latch onto strategies or practices that worked in the past, expecting the same results, without truly understanding the 'why' behind them. We see something that succeeded once, and we replicate it to the letter, convinced it will work again. But we often miss the crucial elements—the context, the deeper drivers, the subtle nuances that made it effective in the first place. Why does this happen? It’s human nature to look for a proven formula, a shortcut to success. We want to feel secure, to believe there’s a reliable path to achieving our goals. But in clinging to these rituals, we risk stagnation. We build runways and expect planes to land without realising the skies have changed. So, what can we do? We can start by questioning the status quo. By being brave enough to ask why something works—not just once, but in every unique situation. By embracing the uncertainty that comes with change and being open to experimentation and adaptation. It's not about discarding what worked before but understanding that yesterday's solutions may not fit today's challenges. Let’s commit to digging deeper, understanding the real ‘why’ behind our actions, and daring to innovate, not just imitate. After all, in a world that’s constantly evolving, blindly following old methods may leave us waiting on the tarmac for cargo that never arrives.

Mission in one’s life is important. And for the last 7+ years, nothing was more important for us to “Save People’s lives and Keep Businesses Running”. That is how we lived at Everbridge. I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible work that the team at Everbridge did. I am humbled by the number of people I must thank for our success and mine. Thank you! I wish the very best to everyone at Everbridge. The dedication to keeping people safe and ensuring businesses continue to operate smoothly is commendable. In an ever-evolving world, your efforts make a tangible difference, providing peace of mind and stability in times of uncertainty. If you are concerned about flying in an airplane given the safety incidents, or received a recall notice at home, worried about your meat or spinach quality, declining environment, you are not alone. With the ever-increasing automation, implementation of AI technologies, climate change, the need to deliver better products is critical. And, that cannot happen at the expense of humanity, our planet and its people. As I step into my role as Chief Product Officer at Hexagon-ETQ, I am thrilled to join the team in our mission to enhance our quality management systems. I have found a mission that I want to invest in. Empower our customers with the freedom to use human creativity to its greatest potential — the freedom to innovate, the freedom to thrive, and most importantly the freedom to ensure a sustainable planet for future generations.

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot.” - Michael Altshuler In our fast-paced world, it's easy to feel like time slips through our fingers. Days turn into weeks, and before we know it, months have passed. But here's the empowering part: we have control over how we navigate our time. Being the pilot means making conscious decisions about where we invest our energy and focus. It's about setting priorities, defining our goals, and steering our course with intention. Remember, every moment is an opportunity to chart a new path, to pivot, and to take actions that align with our values and aspirations. ✈️
