GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICES (GMPs) IN THE FOOD INDUSTRIES. Whenever we are purchasing foods from the supermarket, we are trusting that the manufacturers have created a product that not only tastes good but also free of any form of contamination be it physical, chemical or biological. Just as we rely on other facilities to make a product that is safe our customers are relying on us to do the same for them. When foreign substances find their way into food, they can result in contamination which cannot only make customers sick but can also lead to product recall, probable legal action against the company and damage to the company's reputation. In order to curb contamination of foods, FDA (Food and Drug Administration) release guidelines that established Current Good Manufacturing Practices for food industries. Individual facilities must then look at this criteria in details to design their own GMPs to keep the food they work with contamination free.

#FDA has published a final rule amending the bases for which a Food Contact Notification (#FCN) can be deemed no longer effective, and the procedures for doing so. In addition to FDA determining the food contact substance (FCS) is no longer safe for the intended use, an FCN can be revoked if it is no longer produced, supplied or used, or if the FCS is authorized by a food additive regulation or is the subject of a Threshold of Regulation (TOR) exemption. The amendment also establishes that the manufacturer/supplier of the FCS will have time to respond to a "no longer safe for intended use" determination to supply data or other support for the FCN. The final rule becomes effective on May 21, 2024. https://lnkd.in/eVA-QWWN
