Climate conversation - are you interested? The weekly Climate Debate at South Col is a powerful initiative, blending cultural heritage with environmental advocacy. Here are a few suggestions to enhance its impact: 1. **Diverse Expert Panels**: Invite not just climbers but also scientists, environmentalists, and policymakers from Nepal and beyond. This will provide a comprehensive view of the challenges and solutions related to climate change in the Himalayas. 2. **Interactive Sessions**: Encourage participation from the audience, including tourists, locals, and students. You could include Q&A sessions or workshops that focus on practical ways to reduce the impact of climate change. 3. **Partnerships**: Collaborate with global environmental organizations or universities to gain broader visibility and potentially access to research or funding for climate initiatives. 4. **Documentation and Dissemination**: Record these debates and share them online. This could increase awareness globally and position Varnabas Museum Hotel as a thought leader in climate advocacy. 5. **Integrating Cultural Elements**: Highlight how traditional Nepali practices have historically respected and protected nature. This can inspire modern solutions rooted in culture. 6. **Actionable Outcomes**: Ensure each debate concludes with clear, actionable steps or commitments, such as community clean-up drives, or pledges to support sustainable tourism. If you're considering participation, contributing to a panel or leading a session could be a valuable opportunity to discuss how Nepal’s cultural heritage intertwines with environmental sustainability.

🌀 Ever wonder how the oceans regulate climate? This infographic illustrates the "global ocean conveyor belt," a complex, planet-wide water circulation system that's pivotal for our climate. Here's a deeper dive: 🔵 Deep blue currents run cold and saline, plunging into the ocean's depths. These currents are not just water moving around; they're part of a vast system that transports heat, carbon, oxygen, and nutrients across the globe, supporting marine life and regulating our climate. 🔴 Red currents skim the surface, warm and salty, influenced by the sun. These surface currents, like the Gulf Stream, play a crucial role in warming regions far from the equator, contributing to the mild climate conditions in places like Western Europe. 🟡 Circles in yellow highlight the dance of sinking and surfacing waters, a vital step in this global exchange. This process, driven by differences in water density affected by temperature and salinity, demonstrates nature's complexity and balance. These currents transport warm and cold water across the globe, acting like a giant, natural temperature regulation mechanism for our planet! 📊 This infographic, complemented by our lesson on "Marine currents and climate regulation" serves as a powerful educational tool to explore the significant effects of marine currents on worldwide climate regulation with your students, and understand the essential role of the global ocean conveyor belt in sustaining life on Earth and maintaining the balance of our climate: https://lnkd.in/eirgTvSa #OceanCirculation #ThermohalineCirculation #ClimateEducation #GlobalPerspectives #OceanDecade 🌐📘💧 UN Ocean Decade IPSL-Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace Ocean & Climate Platform RespectOcean High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy Friends of Ocean Action UNESCO Ocean

🌍 €380 Million Boost for Europe’s Green Transition via LIFE Programme: Last week, the European Commission allocated over €380 million to fund 133 new projects across Europe under the LIFE Programme, advancing #environmental and #climate action goals. This funding, over half of the total €574 million needed, also draws support from national and local governments, private partnerships, businesses, and civil society. These projects are key to the European #GreenDeal’s goals—achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and reversing #biodiversity loss by 2030. Covering a wide range of areas, this funding will support: 🔄 Circular Economy: €143 million (EU: €74M) to reduce waste, pollution, and water use in projects like LIFE GRAPhiREC in Italy and LIFE POLITEX in Spain. 🌿 Nature & Biodiversity: €216 million (EU: €144.5M) to restore vital ecosystems and protect species, including the LIFE4AquaticWarbler and LIFE AWOM projects across 12 countries. 🌱 Climate Resilience: €110 million (EU: €62M) to help agriculture and industry adapt to climate impacts. 💡 Clean Energy: €105 million (EU: €99M) supporting energy efficiency and green innovations like LIFE DiVirtue, which uses AR/VR to train construction professionals in sustainable building. With €5.43 billion for 2021-2027, the LIFE Programme continues to pave the way for a sustainable future. #EUGreenDeal #ClimateAction #Sustainability #LIFEProgramme https://lnkd.in/dNMfYsyk

Climate is a very complicated science and we need to make sure that initiatives and targets are validated by organizations that have the expertise, legitimacy and global acceptance to endorse the steps being taken. This is what makes the recent validation of our GHG emission reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) so significant, as it provides external validation from a trusted and reputable organization that we are on track to reach our established targets.

🌿 Congratulations The Australian National University – Highly Commended in the Climate Action category of the 2024 Green Gown Awards Australasia 🌏👏 ANU’s "Carbon Smart Travel" initiative addresses one of the University’s most significant emission sources—travel, which accounted for 40% of its reported carbon footprint in 2023. Committed to halving travel emissions by 2025 (compared to 2019 levels), ANU is leading the way in redefining how academic and professional work can thrive while minimising environmental impacts. Building on lessons from post-pandemic shifts in working practices, ANU has already achieved reductions in travel-related emissions. Recognising the critical balance between career development and environmental responsibility, the initiative equips the community with innovative tools, including a travel emissions tracker app, the Carbon Smart Travel Guide, and institutional support to enable low-carbon success. This collaborative approach empowers the ANU community to make informed travel decisions, fostering a culture of shared responsibility and climate-conscious action. 🎥 Explore the story behind this impactful initiative in the case study video below or read more at https://lnkd.in/gUwrxMTz 🌏 This category was proudly sponsored by Sumday 💚 #GGAA #ACTS #ClimateAction #SustainableCampuses #CarbonSmartTravel
