The reports of extreme violence coming out from #Sudan’s Gezira state are alarming. At Amnesty International, we urge the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces to immediately stop all attacks on civilians throughout the country. We join this call by a cross-party group of more than 40 MPs, peers and other public figures for the Government to finally proscribe the IRGC, as promised prior to the general election: Iran’s malign influence is on display day after day in the Middle East and beyond, and that influence finds expression through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. That is why we and others have been calling for a proscription for a long time. Limited sanctions are not enough. It is time to #ProscribeIRGC.

📣 Security Council Extends Libya Arms Embargo Enforcement Measures On May 31, 2024, the Security Council, with 9 votes in favor and 6 abstentions, extended measures to implement the arms embargo against Libya for another year. ✅ This renewal permits Member States to inspect vessels off Libya's coast suspected of arms embargo violations. The resolution, adopted as 2733 (2024), also grants authority to seize and dispose of embargoed items, subject to Committee approval within 90 days. ❓ However, concerns were voiced over politicizing disposal processes and the European Union Naval Force Mediterranean Operation IRINI's effectiveness. Some abstaining members sought stronger Sanctions Committee involvement in disposal decisions to enhance transparency and de-escalate conflict. The Justice Department unsealed an indictment charging U.S.-Iranian national Jeffrey Chance Nader, 68, with crimes related to the illicit export of U.S.-manufactured aircraft components, including components used on military aircraft, to Iran in violation of U.S. economic sanctions and other federal laws. Criminal case into Ukraine’s attack on Kursk has over 200 volumes — official Among the charges that are now being investigated are murders, attempted murders and terrorism KURSK, September 13/ The criminal investigation, launched by Russia over Ukraine’s attack on its Kursk Region, already includes over 200 volumes, a spokesman for Russia’s military investigation authority of the Russian Investigative Committee, Dmitry Goryachenkov, has told TASS. "Military investigators have started a criminal investigation into the attack on the Kursk region, staged by Ukrainian armed groups. At present, the criminal case has more than 200 volumes," he said. Among the charges that are now being investigated are murders, attempted murders and terrorism. A massive attack on the Kursk Region by the Ukrainian army was launched on August 6. A federal emergency situation regime has been declared in the region, as well as multiple air raid alerts. Residents from borderline districts are being evacuated to safety. According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, more than 10,000 evacuees have been housed at temporary accommodation centers in 30 Russian regions. Russian Investigative Committee Spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told TASS on August 7 that a criminal investigation was launched into the attack. On September 9, the Investigative Committee reported launching separate criminal cases against Ukrainian servicemen, suspected of various crimes committed on the territory of the Kursk Region. #business #finance #financialservices
