These events are packed with food enthusiasts, offering a golden chance to showcase your unique flavors and connect with hungry crowds. Here’s why they’re worth it: 1️⃣ Instant exposure to thousands of potential customers. 2️⃣ A low-cost, high-reward marketing platform. 3️⃣ Direct feedback from your audience—tweak and perfect your offerings! The exposure doesn’t stop at the event either—social media buzz, photos, and word-of-mouth can keep the momentum going long after the festival wraps up.

The Secret to Trade Show Success: Why Free Beer Isn’t Enough Earlier this month I attended the IAAPA Entertainment Trade Show in Amsterdam. It took me some time to adjust to the sensory overload with brands vying for my attention. Many fell back on giveaway tactics such as robotic designed candy floss (James Banfields favourite - see pic 👇), or pellet ice cream, alas there was no free beer. But here’s the truth: while free beer might draw a crowd, it rarely holds the attention. So, what “really” makes a booth magnetic in a crowded trade show? It’s not about having the biggest budget or the loudest gimmicks. It’s about creating an experience that taps into human psychology—one that attendees remember long after the event is over. 👉 Novelty grabs attention. People are drawn to experiences they haven’t seen before. 👉 Reciprocity means when we give something meaningful, attendees feel compelled to engage. 👉 Social Proof drives crowds, people follow where others are gathering. 👉 Scarcity creates urgency with limited-time experiences. 👉 Sensory Appeal engages multiple senses, making the experience unforgettable. In my experience, these principles are the true "secret sauce" to standing out at trade shows. When you combine them with cutting-edge technology, your booth doesn’t just attract attention, it “commands” it. 📌 Want more insights on how to create a booth that’s even better than free beer? Stay tuned! I’ll be sharing strategies you can implement to make your trade show presence unforgettable. #TradeShowTips #AudienceEngagement #TradeShowTechnology

Here’s what we did ⤵️ 1. We created a fun opt in: “text WORD to xxx-xxxx for a B1G1 drink on your next visit!” 2. They shared the promo on their socials & in house to grow their text list (and it grew FAST!) 3. We set up a series of marketing messages to people on their list to let them know about special events, bands playing and more! They have had MULTIPLE capacity nights as a result. People miss social media posts, but you know what they don’t miss are messages on their phones. It’s a SUPER easy way to keep your establishment top of mind. There is a pivotal scene in Marvel's Doctor Strange (2016) takes when Dr. Stephen Strange, a talented yet arrogant neurosurgeon, is grappling with the limitations of his newfound mystical powers. The Ancient One, his mentor, senses his inner conflict and challenges him to see beyond his ego-driven motives. In her wisdom, she reveals that his obsession with perfection stems from a fear of failure—a trait that, while driving his success as a doctor, now hinders his growth as a sorcerer. The Ancient One: You wonder what I see in your future? Dr. Stephen Strange: No. Yes. The Ancient One: I never saw your future, only its possibilities. You have such a capacity for goodness. You always excelled, but not because you craved success but because of your fear of failure. Dr. Stephen Strange: That’s what made me a great doctor. The Ancient One: It’s precisely what kept you from greatness. Arrogance and fear still keep you from learning the simplest and most significant lesson of all. Dr. Stephen Strange: Which is? The Ancient One: It’s not about you. Her message is a humbling reminder that true greatness comes from selflessness and serving a purpose beyond oneself. This realization becomes a key turning point for Strange on his path to becoming a hero. Your audience is waiting to be saved from the status-quo stale crap they've been subjected to over and over again. Become a PRESENTATION HERO! 😍 #itsabouttheaudience #presentations #keynotes #demos #events #customersuccesscasestudies
Don't look now, but some of your neighbors have their holiday lights up. 😮 So in that spirit, 🎉 let me dive in with a playful analogy for holiday foodies. Growing up Jewish, I couldn’t help but envy the festive XMas lights and eats across the cul de sac, from our neighbors, The Rudolphs (seriously), complete with egg nog, shrimp cocktails, and that glorious ham off the bone. 🍤🍖 I know it's a bit early for this sort of talk (and it's 62 degrees here in Chicago 🤔), but as a confessed egg nog enthusiast, I even tried whipping up my own in the past to recreate these holiday moments. Let’s just say it turned out more like rice pudding without the rice… no Clark Griswold magic here! 😅. But I digress... Let’s talk about what makes a memorable food & speaking experience: “trimming the fat.” How to IMMEDIATELY find the juicy, creative, and meaty parts of your presentation! 🎤 It’s all about tightening up your content to make it more engaging and direct. We’ve all got those cherished stories or key details we want to include, but it’s essential to ask: is it really relevant to the event and audience? 🤔 Are these the right ingredients? 👩🍳 Think of your presentation as a delicious sandwich! 🥪 Each element should connect, enhance, and build upon the last, creating a cohesive and satisfying experience for your audience from start to finish. A trimmed down, lean version of your presentation may be the more appropriate choice, especially if you're speaking virtually. The Q/A portion of the event might be the better place for the anecdotes and rich details you were hoping to air. Remember, while crafting this experience, try to take a step back and look at your material with a bird’s eye view: just because YOU think it's important doesn't make it the right choice for the listeners. Now go vote. 👍 #PresentationSkills #PublicSpeaking #Communication #AudienceEngagement #TrimTheFat #BuildingTheSandwich

This Thursday, December 5 is the inaugural presentation of STORYTELLING and the ART of STAGE PRESENCE at Side Hustle Taproom in Kirkland. The event is sold out. So is the January show. The next available seats (and there aren't many) are for the Feb 6 show. If that sells out, I will do one for March and so forth until I am fucking tired of it. For those of you in the Dec show, here's the set list: 0. 16:30: Bar closes to everyone except ticket holders. Get a drink, you're going to need it for the epic shit that is going down. Buy me one while you are at it. Pay it forward to the next person in line. This is where humanity starts people. 1. 17:00: Vocal and facial warm up. This is a routine I do before all my presentations. Usually, it's done in private and once I guide you through it you will know why. No pics or videos during this warm up. I have my fucking dignity. Late arrivals will miss it and it will not be repeated for any amount of begging or bribes. 2. 17:15: Buffet starts. Chef Patti has gone out of her way to dazzle you with vittles. I believe food and drinks are the great bonding agents for humanity. Get a plate, chat up your table mates. Talk about my foul fucking mouth, whatever. Be human. 3. 17:45: Showtime. Bar stays open during the show because this is how I roll. 4. 21:00: Show's over. We hang out. Take selfies, sign books and epic shit shirts. Last chance to liquor me up. 4. 22:00: Why are you still here? Get the fuck out of my bar. Wanna join us in Feb? Stop by Side Hustle and buy a ticket to save on booking fees. Online tickets sales at https://lnkd.in/eYfkPR4b. Strictly limited to 50 guests per session. Let the epic shit begin.

Some interesting echoes of Sir John Hegarty's MAD//FEST LONDON talk yesterday in Sir Martin Sorrell's talk today. Asked what he’d recommend to youngsters joining the industry Sir Martin said learn Chinese, Spanish and coding – not just because they’re useful skills, but because it’ll exercise your brain in a way that we don’t do enough of now. Whilst Sir Martin Sorrell also talked about trying tech fast, because it will change faster than you think, Rory Sutherland talked about what slow AI might look like. Sometimes we need to take time to do things, we need to put in the right amount of effort to achieve what we need to. Being more efficient can be easy to achieve, being more effective is often much harder. Thanks MAD//FEST – lots of great thinking to make the little grey cells fire up – now to slowly digest and think about the learnings to take forward.
We’re saving the best to last at MAD//Fest! Hello Day 3 ☀️ Once you’ve exercised your democratic duty it’s time to get down to the Truman Brewery for a day of inspiring content, networking, pitches, food, drink + our legendary ‘House//Party’ feat. Smokin Jo, Brandon Block, Pete Heller + Gordon Mac!

Community—every brewery loves to claim they’ve got one, but what does it really mean.... First off, it’s not just about having a bunch of followers or club members. A real community is measurable, active, and engaged.... class is in session peeps.... pull up a chair. Online Presence: Do you have a buzzing digital community? Not just a nice number of followers but genuine interactions. Are people waxing lyrical about your beers, sharing their experiences, and connecting with each other through your channels? That’s a REAL digital community right there. Taproom Traffic: Beyond just counting heads, look at who’s coming back regularly. Is your taproom a hub for local events and meet-ups (Big up the local tiddly-winks crew!) ? That’s a community in action. Local Reputation: Is your brewery a landmark in your area? When locals bring friends to town, is your brewery on the must-visit list before they have said hi to the kids? Special Interest Groups: Maybe you’re tapping into niche markets like cyclists or music lovers. If you’re engaging specific groups and becoming part of their lifestyle, that’s a community win. So, let’s hear it—can you honestly say your brewery has a real community? What’s your secret? #brewerybranding #brewerystrategy #beerbranding
