Jordan’s Principle is a legal rule and child-first principle named in memory of Jordan River Anderson. It ensures First Nations children receive the services and supports they need when they need them. Canada is legally responsible for implementing Jordan’s Principle. Who is eligible? First Nations children from birth to the age of majority in their province or territory of residence who meet any one of the following criteria: 1. The child or one parent/guardian has Indian Act status or is eligible for status. 2. The child is recognized by their Nation for the purposes of Jordan’s Principle. 3.
