Roark Capital just called an emergency meeting for their Subway franchise owners last Thursday because sales are way down. Foot long subs aren’t being purchased like they were many years ago because they cost over $10, so they’ve came out with something that’s failing called “Foot long dippers”, which are essentially roll ups obviously without much of what a sub has. Roark Capital just purchased Subway corporate for 9 billion a few months ago. I wrote about this firm before and their bad changes to Dunkin Donuts, now called just Dunkin' as they move away from everything the chain was known for. Taking a time tested chain like Dunkin Donuts and changing the model is a disaster. Remember when Dunkin Donuts actually made fresh coffee of the various flavors? Now it’s all a squirt. That would’ve been a wise move to revert to fresh coffee, instead they announced in 2018 they were moving away from donuts. 🤔 They also own Baskin Robbins which is dead weight at this point and not giving ROI. I actually spoke with a manager at a Subway location while traveling a couple months ago and the owner was charging for the plastic salad containers and there was horror in the managers eyes on what would happen, “if one went missing”. Likely not the best sign that the franchise owner is doing well. A lot of businesses are struggling right now and layoffs are only a matter of time. If you have savings protect it and be careful. Here’s a gas station Subway location in Georgia that put up a questionable sign after an experimental sub imploded off the coast of Newfoundland. #business #franchise #investment #trending #news

I hosted a half day working session last week with one of my franchisor clients in the boutique fitness space. We used our time to craft new systems, both big and small, within the franchise operations vertical that will have a supportive trickle down effect for their franchise partners.
