The Future of Internal Medicine meeting
Medical Doctor –MB, ChB (cum laude) Stellenbosch University - Fascinated by the physiology of the human body, pathophysiology, and how to help those in need by treating the pathology holistically
I was honoured to have been invited by the Stellenbosch University & Tygerberg hospital Internal Medicine department to join 20 brilliant young doctors, nominated by South African hospitals, at a "Get to know you dinner" titled "The Future of Internal Medicine". I was inspired by the impactful speeches from the Head of Tygerberg hospital Internal Medicine, Professor Vernon Louw, Pulmonologist Prof Brian Allwood, and Prof Razeen Davids and Prof Yazied Chothia from Nephrology. Dr. Neshaad Schrueder and Khayelitsha Hospital's Head of Internal Medicine, Dr. Trevor Mnugni closed off with a few words of wisdom for our roads ahead, before allowing us to share about ourselves and why we love what we do. The theme that resonated as a strong predictor for success in medicine was the ability to cultivate a curious mind – never stop asking, "Why?". Asking questions helps you to make sense of the beautifully complex human body. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them personally throughout the evening and I treasure the knowledge and advice that was shared with me. I am excited to learn and grow through my internship and community service years, and can't wait to see what challenges and opportunities lie ahead! #StellenboschUniversity #InternalMedicine #Physician #Neurology

6dI am incredibly grateful to Tygerberg hospital for equipping me with the skills and knowledge to tackle my internship. I have always been impressed by the focus on teaching, and the fantastic Doctors produced by this institution. I hope to return to Tygerberg hospital soon as a specialist in training.
