Simply saying what someone else said is not sufficient. It is not the responsibility of the public to do your job for you on an individual basis. When you fail to do your job, you fail your audience, and only spread false news and lies, contributing to propaganda, brainwashing, and degradation of society. Hold the liars accountable. Make a difference. Complete the story by giving it context in truth and fact. Present the facts in contrast to the falsehoods. #DoBetter.

One of the key pillars of #journalism is to hold truth to power. Why is CBS News not allowing its moderators to fact-check live on air at tonight's Vice Presidential debate between J.D. Vance and Tim Walz? Instead, it says it'll be up to the politicians to call out any "misstatements" although CBS says it will have a live fact-checking blog and social media posts. What are we doing here? The audience is watching the event ... on television! I would argue the viewing audience isn't going to visit the CBS News website or social media channels, splitting their attention from the broadcast. In a live broadcast environment, the moderators must hold the two accountable. Call out any nonsense. Call out the blatant lies. To put the onus on Vance and Walz does a disservice to the viewing public.
