Excited to announce that our latest work, "5GaaS: DLT and Smart Contract-Based Network Slice Management in a Decentralized Marketplace", has been published in the 2024 International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)! 🌐✨ In this paper, we propose the 5GaaS architecture, which integrates Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and smart contracts to enable a decentralized and transparent marketplace for 5G network slicing. This innovative approach addresses the challenges of multi-tenancy and dynamic resource management, allowing Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and service providers to orchestrate end-to-end slices efficiently. 🚀 Key highlights include: - Leveraging blockchain for secure, transparent transactions and SLA enforcement. - Implementation of a state channel paradigm for scalable payment and billing. - Feasibility demonstrations on Ethereum testnets, showcasing cost-effectiveness and minimal latency. This research paves the way for new business models in the 5G ecosystem, including crowdfunding and decentralized finance, fostering collaboration across stakeholders. This research was made possible by the incredible collaboration with Alfonso Egio, Miguel Catalán Cid, and Shuaib Siddiqui from i2CAT Foundation, Spain; Leonardo Lossi from Nextworks, Italy; and Hélio Simeão from Ubiwhere, Portugal. Understanding Distributed Consensus in Multi-Agent Platforms In the world of distributed and decentralized multi-agent platforms, reaching a common agreement is crucial for the effectiveness of the message passing system. Imagine a scenario where multiple processes in a network need to elect a leader. Each process starts with its own bid for leadership. In conventional distributed systems, achieving consensus is vital for ensuring reliability and fault tolerance. In a decentralized setup, individual parties can make their own decisions, which can lead to some nodes acting maliciously or faultily. Therefore, reaching a consensus, or a common point of view, is essential to maintain correct operations even in the presence of such faults. Key Features of Distributed Consensus: - Reliability and Fault Tolerance: Ensures the system operates correctly despite the presence of faulty individuals. - Correct Operations in Faulty Environments: Maintains system integrity even when some nodes fail or behave maliciously. Practical Examples: - Committing transactions in databases - State machine replication - Clock Synchronizer To achieve consensus, certain conditions must be met: - Termination: Every non-faulty process must eventually make a decision. - Agreement: All non-faulty processes must agree on the same decision. - Validity: The final decision must be based on an initial value from some process. - Integrity: Each correct individual decides at most one value, which must be proposed by some participant. Properties of Correct Distributed Consensus Protocols: 1. Safety Property: Prevents convergence to an incorrect value. 2. Liveness Property: Ensures all correct values are eventually accepted. 3. Termination Property: Guarantees that every correct process will make a decision. 4. Agreement Property:,Ensures all correct processes agree on a single value. 5. Fault Tolerance: Handles network and node failures while maintaining system correctness. 6. Byzantine Fault Tolerance: Tolerates a certain number of malicious nodes without compromising safety and liveness. 7. Scalability: Maintains performance and reliability as the network size increases. Applications of Distributed Consensus: - Leader Election: Ensures fault-tolerant leader election without a single point of failure. - Consistency in Distributed Networks: Maintains robustness even if some nodes fail. - Blockchain Technology: Fundamental for achieving agreement on a shared ledger. - Distributed Databases: Ensures consistency across multiple replicas. - Load Balancing: Dynamically distributes workload to prevent node overload. - Fault Tolerance: Allows recovery from crashes or network issues. - Agreement Protocols: Facilitates collective decision-making among multiple nodes. #DistributedSystems #Consensus #FaultTolerance #Scalability #TechInnovation

Convex secures €115,000 funding from EU   The NGI TrustChain Project is funding the development of the groundbreaking TokEngine (TOKen Exchange for the Next Generation INternet Ecosystem) interoperability protocol. This protocol will improve future NGI project interoperability and reduce tokenisation barriers for developers. TokEngine leverages the Convex Virtual Machine (CVM), validated by the EU for its sub-second immutable finality, 10k+ transactions per second and energy efficiency. Convex is partnering with Werenode, a French company, who are pioneering EV charging infrastructure. They empower EV owners to share and access charging points, a critical step for more widespread adoption. The TokEngine, token-based, platform will allow EV users to find, access, and share charging stations across Europe. This effort supports NGI’s vision of fostering digital ecosystems with user-centric services and greater choice.
