Srikanth Bolla’s journey is a powerful testament to perseverance, challenging societal norms, and redefining possibilities for people with disabilities. Born blind in a small village in Andhra Pradesh, India, Srikanth faced numerous challenges throughout his life. Despite his academic brilliance, he was rejected from appearing for the IIT JEE exams simply because he was blind. This highlights a significant gap in India’s educational framework—its lack of inclusivity in some of its premier institutions, such as the IITs.
Srikanth’s story, however, did not stop there. After facing rejection from IIT, he applied to prestigious universities abroad and was accepted into MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), becoming the first international blind student in its history. His success at MIT is a testament to his potential and capabilities, which were unfairly dismissed by the IIT system.
The success Srikanth achieved after being denied the opportunity to even attempt the JEE raises critical questions about the inclusivity of India’s educational institutions. The story of his subsequent entrepreneurial journey, where he founded Bollant Industries—an environmentally conscious company that provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities—further proves that his talents and vision were far beyond what the system initially recognized.
Srikanth’s journey urges Indian institutions like IITs to reconsider their admission policies and make them more inclusive, ensuring that all deserving students, irrespective of disabilities, are given a fair chance. As Srikanth has shown, with the right opportunities, barriers can be broken, and extraordinary success can be achieved.

▶️ After scoring 90% in his 10th exams, Srikanth Bolla was told he couldn’t study science. But that didn’t stop him. He fought against the system and aced his exams with 98%.
▶️ Even though IIT rejected him by denying a hall ticket, Srikanth made a bold move: "If IIT doesn’t want me, I don’t want to be an IITian!" He then went on to make history as MIT’s first blind international student.
▶️ After completing his education at MIT, Srikanth returned to India in 2012 and founded Bollant Industries—a company that employs 36% of its workforce from marginalized and physically challenged backgrounds.
▶️ Today, Bollant Industries is valued at over valuation of 60+ Million USD and is backed by Ratan Tata. The company focuses on eco-friendly, biodegradable packaging, making a positive impact on both the environment and society.
▶️ Srikanth’s journey from rejection to building a thriving business shows that no obstacle is too big when you have determination and vision.
His story proves that setbacks can be the starting point for incredible success ❤️
