On February 21, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has released a screening report to assess whether the use of bis(2-methoxyethyl) ether (diglyme) in articles should be restricted in accordance with REACH article 69(2). Following an assessment of the available evidence, ECHA considers that there is currently no use of diglyme in articles which may pose a risk to human health that is not adequately controlled. ECHA’s view is that at present there is no need to prepare an Annex XV dossier for restriction and any potential risk would be addressed by the recently adopted EU Batteries Regulation. Have you heard of precision fermentation? 👩🔬 Precision fermentation has been used for decades to manufacture heaps of things including rennet for cheese, retinol for cosmetics, insulin to treat diabetes etc. 👩🔬 Precision fermentation harnesses microorganisms (e.g., yeast, bacteria, fungi) to produce specific ingredients. The gene of a target ingredient is inserted into a microorganism, then the microorganism produces the ingredient, which is extracted & purified 👩🔬 Precision fermentation has heaps of benefits including highly reliable production of high quality ingredients, a smaller environmental footprint & avoiding animal use 👩🔬 Precision fermentation could transform food production. We could reliably produce large quantities of high quality food without harming animals & our environment To find out more see Cellular Agriculture Australia's white paper on precision fermentation in Australia #food #foodtechnology #foodrevolution #foodsystemtransformation #futurefood #precisionfermentation #foodtechnology #alternativeproteins #altproteins #cellularagriculture #manufacturing #innovation
We are thrilled to share the release of our latest white paper - “Producing food through precision fermentation: The opportunity for Australia.” This white paper dives deep into Australia’s emerging precision fermentation sector, showcasing the country’s value proposition in producing precision-fermented ingredients. It positions Australia as an attractive destination for precision fermentation companies to establish and scale their operations. In addition, it covers a number of key challenges facing the sector and presents a series of recommendations highlighting opportunities for the Australian Government to support its commercialisation and scale. CAA’s CEO Sam Perkins, states that “Australia has an opportunity to build on existing sovereign capability across the precision fermentation value chain, including robust research capability, a collaborative ecosystem of companies, a well-established regulatory system, and an emerging commercial landscape. We have all the puzzle pieces here, but Government support is crucial to advancing the sector and ensuring Australian companies remain onshore. The window of opportunity for this is finite.” Download your free copy of the white paper here 👉 https://lnkd.in/exhkbxk3 All G Foods Cauldron Ferm Daisy Lab Eden Brew Nourish Ingredients Noumi Eclipse Ingredients #precisionfermentation #biomanufacturing #futuremadeinaustralia #cellag
