The smart BRABUS #1 is finally becoming a real BRABUS Up until now, the luxury tuner BRABUS has been rather reserved when it comes to new smart vehicles. The top line was named after him and was also allowed to proudly bear his name. Nevertheless, it was more like a smart #1 Performance with tasteful BRABUS lettering. But now BRABUS is taking the first step and offering a characteristic BRABUS design. I just wanted to drop a quick update on the progress of the Bike Racer Concept I've been working on for my upcoming design workshop. The detailed modelling is pretty much wrapped up, and I had lots of "fun" with split lines playing havoc with the surface reflections, but hopefully, they are pretty much there. This workshop has been a fascinating exercise as it has shone a light on my process and, at times, lack of it! I've captured all the modelling footage, warts and all. Hours of it will all be edited and sped up for the final production. In the next phase, I'll be focusing on adding finishing touches like shading, livery, and lighting setup for the final render. Dug up an old gem I designed in 2008 over the weekend - one that snagged recognition in the BMW Motorrad design contest. This bike is based on the 1959 BMW Rennsport, so it's naturally named the Rennsport; bearing the notorious "Earles" front end and track racing heritage throughout. My version includes a friction drivetrain and stressed member frame while maintaining a featherbed layout, blending the sport bike tank and cafe seat together. Added some tweaks to amp up the realism today - threw in a kickstand, dialed in connection offsets, and arrayed together a chain and sprocket for the friction drive to rocket the rear wheel. Resurfacing an old project always seems to have it's own set of challenges; specifically tailored to things being rushed for delivery (ie. render models vs. engineered). More tweaks on the horizon - I'm gearing up for some kickass renders just for the heck of it. You know how it goes - sometimes taking a trip down memory lane sparks all sorts of creative madness.
