Soleil Renaud and I will be co-facilitating Yaakaar WHW's International Women's Day event, 'Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: A Global Women's Movement', where we'll explore the journey of women's rights and celebrate diversity. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be given to our partners in Senegal. Join us March 8 at 7pm PST! Register here: https://lnkd.in/eyW-Sfpg 🌍✨ Happy International Women's Day! ✨🌍 Today, we're celebrating the incredible women we have the privilege of working with, both here in Canada and in Senegal. From our courageous grassroots leaders to the bright young women we support, each one inspires us with their resilience and determination. Did you know that while women outnumber men in post-secondary education in Canada, they are still significantly underrepresented in STEM fields? Indigenous and racialized women face barriers to pursuing higher education, contributing to this disparity. In Senegal, despite progress in improving school enrollment rates, only 20% of rural girls complete secondary education, while boys' dropout rates are significantly lower at 34.5%. Challenges such as distance to schools, lack of transportation, early marriage, and household responsibilities often force girls to leave school before completing their education, perpetuating the cycle of inequity. These education disparities highlight the importance of this year's International Women's Day theme, 'Inspire Inclusion'. At Yaakaar Women Helping Women, we believe that empowering women through education is key to creating a more inclusive society. By breaking down barriers to education and economic empowerment, we're building bridges towards a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive. Together, let's inspire inclusion and create a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive. 💪🌟 #InternationalWomensDay #InspireInclusion #BreakingBarriers #WomenEmpoweringWomen

Celebrating Africa’s Women’s Day: Empowering Through Education 🌍🎓 Today, TCA joins the continent in celebrating Africa’s Women’s Day, a tribute to the resilient women who have shaped Africa's future. This year's theme, “Invest in Education: Securing the Future of Women and Girls in Africa,” aligns with our mission to catalyse lasting change. Honouring Our Foremothers Established in 1962 by the Pan-African Women’s Organisation, Africa’s Women’s Day honours the pivotal role of women in building a strong Pan-African identity and driving social and economic progress. The Backbone of Our Economies From farmers to scientists, African women are the backbone of our economies. Their contributions are crucial for inclusive growth and sustainable development. As the AU Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki emphasises, it's our duty to protect and uplift all women and girls, especially those displaced. A Call to Action Let’s commit to achieving gender parity by 2025. Investing in the education and skills of women and girls is essential for a brighter, more equitable Africa. At TCA, we believe in partnerships that drive these goals, ensuring every girl and woman can reach her full potential. Dear LinkedIn Network, In the first season of HAWA: Helping Afghan Women Advance workshop, I observed that many of the girls struggled to find their voices. They were hesitant to speak up, afraid to share their thoughts, and lacked the confidence to participate even in an audio call. After engaging in one-on-one conversations with most of the participants, it became clear that they have lost their sense of self-worth. The bans and restrictions imposed by the Taliban have significantly diminished their self-esteem. Reflecting on these observations and discussing them with my network, we have decided to focus the second session on a more practical topic that will provide tangible support to Afghan girls in their daily lives. This approach aims to empower them with the skills and confidence they need to navigate their challenging environment. I am excited to share that we are organizing the second season of HAWA titled Building Self-Esteem: Empowering Afghan Girls. This workshop aims to support young Afghan women, particularly those deprived of educational opportunities, by fostering their self-esteem and empowering them to take charge of their futures. To make this initiative a success, I am seeking volunteer instructors who can dedicate an hour of their time to engage and inspire these girls. Your expertise and encouragement can make a significant difference in their lives, helping them build confidence and resilience. If you are passionate about empowering women and have skills in personal development, education, or any related field, I kindly ask for your support. Please introduce me to potential volunteers or reach out if you are interested in participating. We will discuss the topics and subtopics of the workshop in more detail. Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of these young women, helping them realize their potential and pursue their dreams. In 2018, this piece that I painted for Women’s Day competition at AUAF, resonates deeply in the current context. It serves as a stark reminder of how much has changed, reflecting on a time when there was still hope and a semblance of progress. It stands as a tribute to the courage of Afghan women and a call to action for the global community to support their fight for equality and freedom. Thank you for your support. With love, Women at HAWA
