A great day at the Northern Housing Consortium's annual summit. Plenty of substance and pragmatism among the excellent speakers – from policymakers and practitioners, to regulators and residents. Some memorable soundbites too: 🚀 Devolution can be “rocketfuel” for affordable housing in the north 🌹 Things might look rosy from the top… but subcultures within your organisation and stigma towards tenants mean bad practice can go unchecked 🐶 Be careful of pet projects and throwing good money after bad – too often innovation is treated as an end in itself 🏙️ In the north, "it’s not just new towns, we need renewed towns too” ⬆️ “The north has a different kind of housing problem – social rent is even more important here” 💰 “We can deliver but there is a big price tag… we shouldn’t be appeasing” ❌ After years of pressure, the sector’s “room for manoeuvre is narrow, and the room for error is narrower still” 📈 We’ve only ever achieved national housing targets when the public and social sectors built at scale 🏗️ “More room to build doesn’t necessarily mean more homes will be built” – and planning reform alone isn’t going to fix things Thanks to everyone who played a part in organising and contributing. A day well spent and lots for the sector to ruminate on as we head into 2025. Tracy Harrison Kate Maughan Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire Mark Easton Catherine Little MBA CIHCM Mark Armstrong James Clark Tom Lamb CIHCM MCIOB Ali Johnson Natasha Kendall
With the government putting housing and regional growth at the centre of its policy agenda, registered providers, local councils and combined authorities are looking for new opportunities to tackle the housing crisis for people across the north. This means increased delivery, action on sustainability and retrofitting, and improved customer experience. All of which makes this year’s Northern Housing Consortium annual summit a major event, with lots to unpack. We’re attending and looking forward to hearing from key speakers such as Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and Clive Betts, MP for Sheffield South East, as well as industry leaders. James Snowdon and Natasha Kendall will be attending the event - please feel free to connect with us there.

Place North has been supporting the property market for 18 years now. We are a small privately owned company that does big things, but it is only now, with our wider reach and position, that we are able to put into action some of our more strategic aspirations. After consulting with some of the region’s senior advisors, it was clear there is a need to do more to support registered providers and local authorities. We are not a one off show or a new arrival to the market and as such we know that we occupy a position that has become ever more useful to the Northern property market. Local #authorities and registered providers are often the conduits to significant #regeneration and housing masterplans. We are very proud to be able to take this decision to make the Place North #conferences so much more accessible to these sectors. Place North is Place North West, Place Yorkshire and Place North East

Last chance to register for Mondays webinar with Linda Meade, Director at, Urban Development Institute of New Zealand UDINZ member, Kalimena Advisory on "Next steps" with the Regional Deals Strategic Framework. Linda will take us through the highlights as she sees it from the recently released Regional Deals Strategic Framework, supplemented by insights from speeches and papers released by the Government referring to it. In addition, Linda will offer some thoughts and ideas on possible asks and offers for any given deal. What might these be ? By way of example: “Asks” of central government could relate to a committed share of existing funds, regulatory changes and co-ordination across government departments and Crown entities. “Offers” by local government could include funding for public amenities to complement housing development, a committed process to deliver a regional spatial plan, or streamlining and aligning the consents process across a region. She will also highlight the importance of involving other parties, including iwi, tertiary institutions and private investors and developers. Join us at this webinar which is free for UDINZ members. ➡Monday 11 November, 12.00pm - 1.00pm ➡Free for UDINZ Members ($100 for non-members - a “try before you buy” option for prospective members only) ➡Delivered via zoom ➡Register via the link: https://lnkd.in/gjWiNUJd Campbell McGregor Steven Evans Hayley Fitchett Annie Wilson Tracey Haszard Kim Kelly Amanda Greenwood James Whetter Anthony Smith Ged Campbell Adrienne L. As part of a robust fair lending program, it’s crucial to have a structured process for monitoring and addressing complaints. This proactive approach not only ensures compliance with regulations but also fosters trust and transparency with customers. If your organization hasn’t integrated complaint monitoring into its fair lending program yet, now is the time to consider doing so. Not only does this demonstrate your commitment to fair practices, but it also helps identify and rectify any potential issues before they escalate. #FairLending
